Your future role

We currently have two exciting opportunities available for Lead Maintenance Technicians (LMTs) based at our Wulkuraka facility, where you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the QNGR fleet. These positions offer the opportunity for highly skilled technical professionals to provide leadership in fault diagnosis, incident investigation, and complex problem-solving while supporting continuous improvement across fleet maintenance operations. As a key technical authority, you will collaborate closely with Maintenance Technicians, In-Service Support Technicians, and operational stakeholders, driving fleet reliability, developing workforce capability, and delivering innovative maintenance solutions that enhance performance, availability, and safety. The positions may be required to particpate in a rotating shift roster, including day and night shift. We’ll look to you for:

  • Leading the investigation and resolution of in-service faults, incidents, and reliability issues to maximise fleet safety, availability, and performance.
  • Conducting root cause analyses, failure investigations, and trend reviews to identify reliability improvement opportunities and drive corrective actions.
  • Providing advanced technical leadership, troubleshooting expertise, and operational support to Maintenance Technicians, ISST personnel, and key stakeholders.
  • Developing and implementing maintenance strategies, technical work scopes, and repair solutions for complex fleet and component issues.
  • Overseeing diagnostic testing, repair, validation, and disposition of electronic and electro-mechanical components to support fleet requirements and reduce external repair costs.
  • Maintaining subject matter expertise across key train systems, including TCMS, traction, braking, door control, HVAC, communications, and auxiliary systems.
  • Delivering technical training, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to strengthen workforce capability and improve maintenance effectiveness.
  • Promoting a proactive safety culture through compliance, hazard identification, workplace inspections, and adherence to quality and regulatory standards.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance fleet reliability, operational efficiency, workforce capability, and overall maintenance performance.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate technical reports, performance analyses, maintenance records, and KPI reporting to support operational, commercial, and contractual objectives.

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Extensive experience in rollingstock, rail maintenance, heavy industry, or a similarly complex operational environment, with strong technical knowledge of fault finding, diagnostics, and maintenance practices.
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical investigations, including root cause analysis, reliability improvement activities, failure reviews, and the development of effective corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and mentoring, building workforce capability through coaching, knowledge sharing, technical training, and the development of maintenance procedures and documentation.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret maintenance, reliability, and operational performance data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across maintenance, engineering, operations, and commercial teams to achieve fleet performance objectives.
  • Relevant trade, technical, or engineering qualifications, with experience in rail, rollingstock, electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, or a related discipline highly regarded.

Ready to take the lead in shaping the reliability and performance of one of Queensland’s most important rail fleets? If you have the technical expertise, leadership capability, and passion for continuous improvement, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today and be part of a team driving safety, innovation, and operational excellence from our Wulkuraka facility.
