Your future role
 

Mechanical Superintendent has the principal responsibility for leading, managing and coordinating the Contractor's performance for all railroad rolling stock including locomotive, cab and coach cars as well as the facilities you use. Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day safe and efficient operations; leading their team; interaction with all levels of Alstom's organization and customer's organization.  In addition to maintenance of the rolling stock fleet this position oversees Rail Rolling Stock rehabilitation, capital and third‐party programs and support services. 


 

Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • The Mechanical Superintendent shall work closely and collaboratively with the other subcontractors, suppliers and vendors in developing the annual scope and budget(s) for the maintenance and similarly for the support services.
  • Directives for signals, active warning devices, communication systems, wayside train control systems, Level 1 support for control center train control systems.
  • Ensure operational needs are being met 24/7; work various shifts to ensure personnel are performing and exceeding goals.
  • The maintenance work is performed at the main maintenance facilities.
  • This fleet of equipment must be inspected, repaired, and maintained according to the Contract requirements with the highest degree of safety and to minimize passenger delays and community stakeholder disruption.
  • Respond to incidents and work with control center for safe and efficient recovery.
  • Manager of managers- lead a diverse group including equipment, facilities, track/ signal inspections, human resources, procurement and purchasing.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent shall have experience working with public agencies preferably commuter railroads that are subject local, state, and federal funding requirements and regulations and must be able to manage budgets and deliver superior service under budgetary constraints.
  • Ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Develop relationships with customer and ensure contractual obligations are met.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to make presentations to Senior Leadership, and occasionally Governing Boards and public stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent management and leadership skills with managers and labor crafts. Ability to plan and organize work effectively and timely with strong attention to details.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Programs, rail equipment maintenance and train control/signal system software and applications, Enterprise
  • Asset Management/Enterprise Resource Management software and applications to Rail Systems and support facilities.
  • Knowledgeable with application of new technology to improve efficiency, safety, reduce costs.
  • Proven Management Experience and Skills assisting in the management of subcontract, supplier, vendor contracts to achieve best value, favorable life cycles, high quality products and services in a timely manner.
  • Ability and prior proven skills in developing and establishing programs, practices, standards and procedures for passenger safety, rule adherence, operating schedules, and training.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Engineering, or Transportation, or related field—or equivalent experience
  • 8 years of broad and deep, progressively responsible Passenger, Commuter Railroad or Class 1 Railroad Commuter Operations. Excellent background covering most facets of planning, budgeting, invoicing, reporting, cost containment on a commuter railroad or Class 1 similar in multi‐ line, host/tenant service complexity and territory and equipment fleet.
  • Prior experience that demonstrates accomplishments that enhanced efficiency, accuracy, reliability, timeliness and regarded among peers as a Railroad infrastructure maintenance subject matter expert.
  • Expert in  FRA, and other State and local regulations and practices related to the contracted operations, maintenance, and capital work.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work various hours and shifts. 

 

Other:

 

  • Must have or be able to get a  valid Mass. Driver’s License with good driving record of no more than 2‐points and no DUI’s within the last 3‐years. Pass an extensive background check.
  • Must be able to pass a pre‐employment physical examination including a drug test.
  • Good understanding of Code of Federal Regulations and expert in mechanical sections.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

 

Salary Range:

 

$140,000-$170,000 depending on experience/qualifications.

 

Railroad Retirement Eligible.

This position is contingent on customer approval of candidate in this position and if Alstom is successfully awarded the CT Rail Contract.
