Systems Engineer

Based at our customers depot in Wimbledon, London, UK we are currently looking to recruit an experienced System Engineer with experience on the Aventra platform. 

Purpose of the role

The systems Engineer will be responsible for a range of activities in support of the Engineering Manager in order to deliver the technical support and engineering obligations required by the Services TSSSA contract associated with the Class 701 fleet. In terms of tasks, the role will encompass elements of Performance Management, Systems Engineering and Reliability Engineering. The successful candidate will also be accountable for the identification, documentation and mitigation of engineering and safety risks within the area of responsibility. 


•    Provide technical support to resolve performance or maintenance issues and enhance knowledge of the train systems performance. Support the both the Project and Engineering Manager with a range of engineering, performance and management activities as required in order to meet TSSSA contract obligations. 
•    Monitor, analyse, investigate and develop solutions in a timely manner to resolve technical issues associated with the operation of the fleets.
•    Accountable for technical, incident or accident investigation and development and implementation of appropriate containment or solutions in order to maintain and improve reliability/performance against targets. 
•    Accountable for measurement of availability, reliability and safety targets as well as claims management and fault attribution as required. 
•    Accountable for provision of written reports and technical information including instructions, analysis, specifications and training material in a timely manner as required , meeting Business or TSSSA obligations. 
•    Assist, guide and support Technicians and colleagues to work effectively and safely as a team to deliver high quality services in order to deliver customer satisfaction. 
•    Identify where cross-site initiatives can be applied to improve engineering processes, standardisation or performance. Ensure professional standards and codes of conduct are maintained. 
•    Accountable for the development of safe and effective modifications or changes to maintenance specifications to improve performance, reduce costs, improve safety or meet customer requests. 
•    Accountable for ensuring changes are carefully documented considered for safety risks and conducted in accordance with formal change control processes. 
•    Ensure Training and work packages are delivered to time and budget and meet project scope and customer expectations. 
•    Deliver material technical support, review material performance against specification, review reliability and obsolescence of parts and monitor material.



•    Ideally educated to degree level/HNC/HND in an engineering related subject; Chartered or in process to be chartered 
•    Relevant experience in the field of services, Systems Engineering, fault finding and/or attribution
•    Industry background: ideally rail (modern rolling stock), with Aventra platform experienc
•    Significant technical knowledge of schematics and maintenance of systems (e.g. electrical, mechanical, electronical and computer systems) 
•    Working knowledge of basic IT systems (e.g. MS Office)
•    Knowledge of a maintenance management system (SAP, Maximo) is a plus 
•    Ability to collect and understand data and prepare reports 
•    Highly independent in your work while also showing good communication and stakeholders management skills, whilst working as part of a team
