Details of the Volunteers for International Experience (VIE) program:

  • Assignments are open for citizens of European Union countries between 18 and 28 years
  • A VIE assignment will be in a country other than that of the candidate's nationality
  • Never have worked in Austria
  • Assignment lasts from 12 to 24 months, renewable once within a cumulative limit of 24 months
  • Compensation (non-taxable) linked to the cost of living index and set by Business France: 2 980,06 € per month in Austria (update 1st of July 2025)
  • Set up by public sector statute in France, managed by the Business France organization
  • International social protection is extended to eligible parties
  • 2.5 days of holiday per month
     

We are looking for a dedicated and motivated System Engineer Traction to join us in our location in Vienna, Austria with the VIE Program.

The System Engineer Traction is responsible for the specification and qualification of traction components (traction converters, traction motors and gearboxes) and functions within the light rail vehicle product family. The system engineer is also responsible for the on-board power supply architecture and its systems (auxiliary converter, batteries and pantographs) and their functions. 

Your Role:

  • Specification of traction systems
  • Definition of high and low voltage architecture
  • Performance calculations (acceleration, deceleration, time, energy)
  • Analysing public tenders
  • Preparation of tender documents and technical tender support
  • Requirements management
  • Supplier coordination
  • Development of innovative functions for energy saving and driver assistance
  • Specification and execution of tests on the track/in the laboratory
  • Ensuring the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of our railways

Competencies & Skills:

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in electrical engineering or comparable qualification
  • Detailed knowledge of electrical engineering
  • Business fluent English are required. German is a plus
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as system engineer traction and auxiliary power supply
  • Detailed knowledge about EMC is a plus
  • Willingness to travel
