Coud you be the next Industrial Engineer to work in Alstom's Widnes we're looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and help shape the future of industrial engineering at Alstom. You’ll report to the Head of Operations and play a vital role in defining safe, productive, and controlled methods for train modernisation and parts overhaul. Collaborating closely with internal teams and external customers, you’ll ensure high standards in health and safety, efficiency, cost, innovation, and service levels while addressing any engineering challenges that may arise. You will raise overall standards in industrial engineering performance using best practice methods and continuous improvement (CI) tools.

We’ll look to you for the following:

  • Evaluate customer requests for quotes related to train modernisation and rail equipment through the preparation of detailed cost estimates based on materials, labour, and tooling requirements.
  • Lead the industrialisation process for train modernisation and rail equipment, ensuring the creation of Work Instructions (WIs) for new builds, overhauls, and modernisations, while ensuring the updating of Alstom Operating System (AOS) and Safety Engineering Standards (SES), and purchasing of tooling is completed to plan.
  • Ensure that all relevant overhaul and repair specifications and drawings are accessible and up-to-date.
  • Adhere to quality procedures and ensure compliance with Alstom's established practices and Code of Ethics.
  • Support Approved (AZDP), Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER), and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) requirements throughout the industrialisation process.
  • Ensure full compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental regulations established by Alstom.
  • Ensure Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets for quality, efficiency, cost, and service are consistently achieved.

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

    • A good understanding of industrial engineering processes, including cost estimation methodologies and the industrialisation process.
    • Substantial experience in industrial engineering or a related field, ideally within the transport or workshop environment, using best practice engineering methods and continuous improvement (CI) techniques.
    • Education in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a similar discipline at degree level or equivalent.
    • The individual must demonstrate a “driven,” well-disciplined, logical thinking approach, be self-motivated, a team player, able to communicate at all levels, and above all be highly “innovative” in delivering high standards in industrial engineering processes.
    • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement and safety.
    • A strong focus on customer needs and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

Things you’ll enjoy

Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Utilise our agile working environment

  • A wide range of flexible benefits that you can tailor to suit your lifestyle

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
