Could you be the full-time Onboard Installation Welder in Whitby, ON, we’re looking for?
Your future role
Take on a new challenge and apply your welding expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside skilled and collaborative teammates.
You'll play a key role in ensuring and performing the ETCS installation and Vehicule brake modification, contributing to the transformation of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) transit system. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (installation supervisors, project site managers, and design teams), ensure compliance with safety standards, and provide proactive suggestions for process improvements, and much more.
You’ll specifically take care of maintaining updated electrical schematics and troubleshooting electrical faults, but also contribute to the development of test plans to validate system modifications.
We’ll look to you for:
- Strict adherence to Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) procedures and policies
- Confirming installation readiness and ensuring activities are performed without deviations
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding specifications
- Perform MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on various metals including steel, aluminium, and stainless steel
- Perform soldering on various other metals including but not limited to copper pipping
- Prepare materials and surfaces for welding by cleaning, cutting, and grinding
- Inspect welds for accuracy and quality, ensuring compliance with safety and engineering standards
- Maintain and operate welding equipment and tools (manual and semi-automatic) safely and efficiently
- Collaborate with installation teams/supervisor to align welding tasks with project timelines
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards during all phases of welding work
- Not limiting to welding, should be able to perform mechanical installations and retrofits on rail vehicles, including brackets, piping, enclosures, and structural components
- Ensuring compliance with design documentation and supervisor instructions
- Reporting risks, deviations, or issues that may impact safety, quality, or performance
- Using APSYS (Alstom Performance System) tools or templates for continuous improvement

- Diploma or certification in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent is required
- Completion of a Welder Apprenticeship Program is an asset and /or Skilled trade certification from Ontario (desirable)
- Hold or capable to obtain valid CSA W47.1 ticket issued by Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) as per the following requirements:
- Mode of Transfer: Globular
- Mode: Manual
- Class: OVERHEAD, sometimes referred as "O" or "4GF" or "4F"
- Material: Carbon Steel
- Process: SMAW
- Electrode (group): F4
- Classification: "FW", "S" or "T" are all acceptable
- Experience in railway, transit, or heavy vehicle mechanical systems preferred
- Experience with fitment of pneumatic systems, brake valves, pressure switches and various type of pipes (pneumatic brake & cable protection)
- Knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams
