Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your mechanical and electrical maintenance expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside skilled and collaborative teammates.

You'll play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and safety of our rail equipment. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (such as operations and technical support teams), conduct inspections, perform repairs, and much more.

You’ll specifically take care of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of rail equipment, including locomotives and coaches, but also troubleshoot and repair systems both on-site and off-site as needed.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Movement of rail equipment as required, ensuring you possess a valid Alstom equipment operator’s certificate for such tasks

  • Performing scheduled inspections and unscheduled repairs, including component replacements on coaches and locomotives

  • Conducting interior and exterior inspections of coaches, including all subsystems and safety equipment

  • Inspecting and repairing equipment to ensure locomotives and coaches are adequately prepared for dispatch

  • Dumping and charging coach toilets, filling water and glycol tanks, and addressing blockages

  • Using hand and power tools such as pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and measuring instruments for repairs

  • Providing information to Clerical staff to generate service requests and work orders

  • Fault-finding and performing corresponding equipment repairs

  • Travelling off-site to outpost locations for troubleshooting and repairs

  • Performing other duties as assigned

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent

  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in the mechanical and electrical maintenance field

  • Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings and maintenance manuals

  • Experience using power tools and hand tools

  • Familiarity with AC and DC power and control systems, as well as HVAC systems, is an asset

  • Strong recordkeeping skills

  • Proficiency in English reading, writing, and speaking

  • A valid Class G Driver’s License

Things you’ll enjoy Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long-term career free from boring daily routines

  • Work with new security standards for rail signalling

  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues

  • Contribute to innovative projects

  • Utilise our dynamic and inclusive working environment

  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries

  • Benefit from our investment in your development, through award-winning learning

  • Progress towards exciting career growth opportunities

  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognises your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, pension)
