Could you be the full-time onsite Mechanical Design Engineer - Composites in West Mifflin, PA, US we’re looking for?

 

Your future role

The purpose of this position is for creating, updating, and integrating composite related products used on various APM platform vehicles and related maintenance vehicles.  

 

We’ll look to you for:

  • Creating and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, and Digital Mock-Up (DMU) data for composite components and assemblies.
  • Designing and validating composite parts, ensuring compliance with technical, quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
  • Perform detailed mechanical design activities, including stack-up analysis, clash detection, and interface management.
  • Supporting manufacturing, industrialization, and suppliers throughout development, production ramp-up, and qualification phases.
  • Assessing supplier proposals and costs, contribute to sourcing strategy, and participate in supplier audits and onboarding.
  • Leading and support R&D initiatives to develop innovative composite solutions.
  • Resolving technical issues related to composite parts and provide engineering support to project teams and customers.
  • Managing engineering deliverables, design reviews, change requests, CAD quality, and BOMs while ensuring project milestones and customer requirements are met.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory).
  • 3+ years of experience in Mechanical Design/Engineering within an industrial environment.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with composite materials, preferably fiberglass composites; broader materials engineering expertise will also be considered.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design tools (CATIA V5 preferred; SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent accepted).
  • Familiarity with Digital Mock-Up (DMU) environments, 3D integration, and interface management.
  • Experience in rail, automotive, aerospace, or other highly regulated manufacturing industries is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate, implement, and manage engineering change requests.
  • Excellent English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and cross-functional teams.
