Position as a Interiors Composite Product Engineer for the Legacy APM Vehicle Engineering team located in Pittsburgh, PA, LCS site reporting to the Train Design Engineering manager.
The purpose of the job is to be the resident specialist for APM interiors accountable for the design, development and fitting of interior and exterior composite parts.
OBJECTIVES
You shall work in a product / project organization and in a context of international contracts.
You are the composite product engineer supporting the application of APM interior and exterior composite vehicle components insuring they meet all applicable requirements and standards.
You will network Train Design Engineering team members mainly in the different Engineering and Design departments, but also with various Projects, Bids, Quality and Purchasing departments. In additon, you will be in contact with various Suppliers and Customers as necessary.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT
- Capacity to make design decisions and improvements on new and existing composite parts.
- Design reviews on time.
- Design review opened/closed issues.
- GO tooling on time.
- 3D freeze on time.
- Number of modifications after 3D freeze.
- Documentation release on time.
- Spent engineering hours vs budget.
RESPONSIBILITES
- Provide support to engineers.
- Provide technical support to allow Lead, Interiors and CAD engineers to fully develop composite parts and components.
- Create tools for CoE technical team to devellop parts in composite fulfilling FST, weight, cost, tooling and planning constraints.
- Deploy and apply development procedures, catalogue and standard solutions.
- Tenders and Projects
- Contribute to the train physical design and architecture in scope taking into account particular weight, train layout, fittings, acoustics, and eco design requirements.
- Participate in design / verification reviews and provide associated reports.
- Support other Train Design engineers in establishing certification and validation plans.
- Validate the technical specification of composite parts.
- Provide support to industrialization and production teams during manufacturing ramp-up.
- Provide support to suppliers in development and manufacturing phases.
- Support tender team in the composite parts costing.
- Provide support to Sourcing
- Analyise suppliers' offers.
- Participate to the definition of composite suppliers' strategy.
- Support new supplier intgration and qualification including supplier qualification audits.
- Be a reference for Alstom
- Create catalogue solutions and design standards for Alstom engineering.
- Animate a network in Alstom for all technical people working on composites.
- Be the representative Alstom person for external activities (standards, exhibitions).
- Lead R&D activity on composite solutions.
- Support project teams in case of explanations with customer.
- EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
BS Degree in mechanical or structural engineering with emphasis on Composite materials.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCES
- Engineer with 5 years minimum experience in composites within transit or automotive industry.
- Knows and uses CATIA V5.
- Has previously worked with outside suppliers.
- Has legitimacy in the composite world.
- Is able to work in an international enviroment and matrix organization structure.
