Engineering

  • Provide detailed reviews of the maintenance activities associated with the fleet and determine maintenance planning requirements to optimise exams and reduce maintenance costs while satisfying safety requirements and risk.
  • Monitor and report on the reliability of the fleet and work with contractors towards improving fleet reliability
  • Manage & maintain a robust vehicle configuration change process for modifications and trials the development, verification and application/introduction of vehicle related standards that would be relevant and applicable for specific types of rail vehicles.
  • Responsible for the development of data collection processes and procedures relating to vehicle condition, performance, reliability etc.
  • Responsible for management and up-keep of the visualisation boards.
  • Responsible for the Response Team in the investigation and analysis of trends in vehicle performance (defects, reliability, availability etc.)
  • Apply Engineering principles to investigate vehicle trends and perform root cause analysis.
  • Responsible for the development of researched solutions to address vehicle performance trends with the aim of minimising or eliminating their reoccurrence. Such solutions may involve changes to suppliers, design, maintenance regimes etc. and will require close liaison with other functional departments such as engineering, supply management and customers.
  • Perform cost benefit & risk analysis for proposed solutions to assess their viability within the constraints of the contract & budget
  • Produce proposals on relevant and cost-effective options for vehicle changes/modifications accompanied by the appropriate documentation such as risk analysis etc.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of overhaul intervals and specifications (scope of work) for major components based on results of risk analysis, specifications, vehicle condition (ie. condition monitoring) and financial constraints.
  • Responsible for the ongoing assessment and analysis of vehicle condition to ensure that the systems and appropriate actions are in place to maintain contractual compliance.
  • Provide technical reports (internal and external), as required on a varying range of topics.
  • Provide Failure Mode analysis to determine suitable controls to improve performance and to allow vehicles to remain in service with non-safety critical defects.
  • Provide monthly reports to management on vehicle related issues, performance and improvement initiatives.
  • Implementation and adherence to all corporate policies including OH&S and Quality.
  • Develop, review and modify work instructions, procedures etc.
  • Ensure configuration management control.
  • Hold performance and reliability reviews with our customer.
  • Reliability:  Calculate equipment failure rates using data from various sources and develop Reliability Block Diagrams with this information.  Work with Engineering to agree upon failure rate targets for sub-systems.
  • Availability:  Develop availability models to support projects and proposed designs based on the Reliability Block Diagrams.  Provide targets for vendor supplied equipment to Engineering, and incorporate into RAMS requirements for vendors.
  • Maintainability:  Develop Maintainability Analyses and perform other required maintainability tasks.

Maintenance & Repair

  • Develop preventative / corrective maintenance manuals / tasks in conformance with the Technical Maintenance Plan.
  • Assist fault diagnosis and identification on both the electrical and mechanical systems of the vehicle.
  • Assist in the identification and production of vehicle modification programs to improve reliability and maintainability.
  • Perform / assist vehicle modifications as required.
  • Establish, maintain and deliver training material in line with maintenance needs and ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Assist as required with the recovery of defective vehicles and the production of incident reports.
  • Liaise with the Operator on a regular basis regarding the status of the fleet to ensure maximum possible availability always.
  • Assist in the reporting of all vehicle faults and subsequent rectification to enable the monitoring of fleet performance.
  • Creating and closing out of work orders.
