Could you be the full-time Traction Power Design Engineer in Västerås we’re looking for?

 

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your technical expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll report to Traction Sub-system team manager, and work alongside motivated and supportive teammates.

You'll verify/define the power schemes (propulsion system and/or converter modules) with the means of simulation tools and in relation to performance requirements. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (for example Traction Control), perform analysis, suggest and recommend design mitigation if needed.

You’ll specifically take care of defining and governing the product type testing of converter modules.

 

We’ll look to you for:

  • Use the design rules for Traction system dimensioning.
  • Use standard design deliverables for Traction system.
  • Use the standards tools and Alstom specific tools to derive appropriate solutions.
  • Contribute to define rules, guidelines and standard design deliverables.
  • Contribute to return of experience to owners of traction converter and systems as well as to power electrical components.

 

Tender, product, project or R&D development

 

  • Calculate and simulate electrical or thermal constraints related to all components of the power scheme (Alstom tools: APC/TEP/CITHEL) to fulfil all customer and normative requirements.  Write corresponding design reports.
  • Get involved in the definition and design of the interfaces of electrical components with mechanical department.
  • Specify the electrical components of the traction drives or auxiliary converters.
  • Analyze and simulate performance and properties of Power electronic components (IGBT, diodes, …), switchgear, traction motors, passive components (inductors, transformers, capacitors, resistors, busbars, …).
  • Interface components with control electronics (sensors, gate drives, relays, …).
  • Participate in the definition of validation tests of the power scheme with the validation engineer and in investigation tests

  • Master degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven experience with Matlab and work in high power labs, power electronics is a merit.
  • Good communication skills, the ability to be self-driven but also to able co-work within teams.
  • Fluent in English. Swedish is an advantage/merit but not mandatory.
