Function: Human Resources

Objective

HR Manager with multi-site responsibilities for a variety of HR related services across North America.  This may include one or more of the following specialties; Employee Relations, Labor Relations, Benefits, Recruiting, Compensation, Training and Development and Communications.

 

Plans and administers policies relating to all phases of human resources activity by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

  • Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Awareness of union avoidance strategies including understanding the importance of small group meetings, face-to-face interaction with both hourly and salaried employees both on and off the production floor.
  • An advocate to employee relations, performance management and other human resources issues with both hourly and salaried staff to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention
  • Recruits, interviews, tests, and selects employees to fill vacant positions.
  • Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
  • Keeps records of benefits plans participation such as insurance and pension plan, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
  • Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.
  • Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization.
  • Provide input and assist Director of HR in planning guidance and execution strategies to reinforce and maintain a positive corporate culture in accordance with corporate standards
  • Administers salary administration program to ensure compliance and equity within organization.
  • Administers benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, pension plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
  • Engage in continuous learning and professional development to maintain current knowledge within the field to meet required compliance and regulatory job requirements
  • Investigates accidents and prepares reports for insurance carrier.
  • Conducts wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rate.
  • Prepares budget of human resources operations.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
  • Capability to work in a matrix organization
  • Prepares reports and recommends procedures to reduce absenteeism and turnover.
  • Represents organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.

Candidate Requirements

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Business, HR or related field from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience (Essential Functions)

5 + years related experience and/or training.

PHR or SPHR preferred.

Previous work in manufacturing organizations strongly preferred

California PHR strongly preferred

DOT Drug & Alcohol testing experience preferred

 

Working Conditions (Industrial/Environmental)

Office environment; it will be expected at times to be present on shop/warehouse floor where PPE is required; noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

Must be able to travel 30% of the time.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills                                               

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Peoplesoft Human Resource systems; Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Office Word Processing software.
