R&D Engineer Interiors (M/F) – SW & Electronics

Location: Valenciennes, France

 

You will join our Interiors Component Development Site and Product Family of Valenciennes Petite Forêt, a key actor in the design and development or interior train parts as well as front ends, with more than 180 people & 22 different nationalities, designer, buyer, industrial, quality, Project Managers & Product Experts , working both for French & International projects.

 

What are my responsibilities?

Purpose of the Job/Objective

  • You will enable the migration of our Interiors products portfolio from “basic” mechanical & lighting components to smart & remotely controllable, cyber-secure, sub-systems and solutions, integrating latest electronics and mechatronics technologies to support e.g. flexible and reconfigurable train interiors layouts, dynamic lighting based passenger information systems, noise control systems, etc.
  • Concretely, you will intervene in all Interiors R&D projects where electronics and/or software components are necessary, to design, de-risk, validate and industrialize the final product, either in full autonomy as project manager or as a technical contributor, and in close collaboration with Train Control and Train Electrical entities.

Performance Measurement

  • KPI R&D Projects (OTIF, Design Review on time, budget adherence)
  • KPI Innovation generation & exploitation (number inventions, use on commercial projects)
  • Technical support to Tenders & Projects: according to requests / opportunities

 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Executes and manages research and product development projects (internal + at suppliers) related to Trains’ Interiors & Exteriors scope, with the purpose to providing to the future passengers of Alstom trains an innovative, modern, comfortable and safe travelling experience
  • Act as central interface towards Train Control & Train Electrical entities to secure a compatible, cyber-secure, reliable, and future-proof integration of the developed solutions into the trains.
  • Analyzes the market and competition (industrial watch, scientific & technological watch) in relation to smart embedded systems, and associated use cases
  • Suggests innovative solutions and R&D partnerships opportunities in line with Alstom’s development strategy, and taking into account customer’s needs and requirements, and contributes to develop a robust and ambitious roadmap for future developments
  • Ensures applicability of the developed products onto commercial projects through close collaboration with the Marketing, Tender & Project teams (Engineering, Costing, Sourcing, Quality, etc.) as well as the Services & Digital Train teams.
  • Contributes to internal budget collection for R&D activities and manages reporting to internal customers
  • Develops the network of internal and external R&D partners for innovation in relation to his/her R&D scope.

 

 

What do I need to qualify for this job?

 

Minimum qualifications

  • Engineering Master degree in electronics, opto-electronics, mechatronics, automation, information systems.
  • At least 5yrs experience in R&D / product development of products with embedded electronics & software in an industrial, preferably international, context
  • At ease with electrical and electronics design & modelling tools (E3S, Simulink, ControlBuild), and programing languages (Matlab, Python, C)
  • Experience with communication protocols for lighting and embedded and networked systems (e.q. CAN, Ethernet, MQTT), and managing cybersecurity requirements. Experience with IEC 62443 & 63452 standards, and TRDP is a plus.
  • Proven experience with RAM(S) concepts & methodologies applied to electronics components
  • Proven R&D project management experience in an industrial environment
  • Experience in railway, aeronautics or automotive is a plus

  • Strong passion for innovation and questioning the status quo, and perceiving (upcoming) market needs
  • Fast prototyper, likes to experiment in order to quickly show/test new concepts & solutions
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills
  • Ability to work in an international environment; Speak and write in English; French is a bonus.
