Mechatronic Development Engineer (m/f)


The Mechatronic Development Engineer will be responsible for the development and testing of Mechatronic systems up to train level. Depending on the project and requirements, the activities can be related to Software, Hardware, Modelling, Testing /Quality, data analyzing. Customer support after the V&V cycle can be required if needed to solve issues during passenger service.


For this specific job opening we are focussing on "Software Quality and Testing, with the following responsibilities: 

  • Support for quality assurance & testing (lab, TCMS simulator, train...) during the design of Mechatronic systems
  • Support for SW definition, implementation & Validation / Verification
  • Support for Architecture definition, Functional / Performance description


Additional responsibilities depending on the job evolution are required as expressed below:PONSABILITIES

  • For monitoring systems, carry out Big Data analysis for Pattern Recognition and calibration during passenger service
  • Architecture definition, Block diagrams, Functional / Performance description
  • Modelling of the Algorithm and model preparation for Co-Simulation
  • Application of Advanced Signal processing (ex. CPU occupation optimisation, memory allocation/cycles...)
  • HW definition, implementation & validation & type testing, together with "supplier"               
  • Support the TCMS Interface tests up to Train "0" Test
  • Support the Commissioning tests (BOGIE, CAR level, Train Level (static/dynamic)) & special tools
  • Dynamic train Testing & System Optimisation
  • Performing remote support in the beginning of passenger service to be sure that no improvements are needed anymore


Competencies & Skills, in this case, they are focussed on "Software Quality and Testing": 

  • Experience in the development of Mechatronic Systems 
  • Experience with the European standards like EN50128, EN50657 and ISO9001 for software development & quality
  • Experience with Cyber security (based on standards IEC 62443-3-3 & CLC/TS EN 50701)
  • Experience with the “Software V development” model
  • Experience in real time software development, software programming, multi-tasking, software quality and software verification & validation activities, training, software maintenance, NCR’s, configuration management & software release notes.
  • Experience with programming languages like C, C++, Visual Studio...
  • Experience with Real Time Operating systems (RTOS) like QNX, Linux...and the corresponding development tools
  • Knowledge of communication links like CAN, Ethernet (with IPTCom or TRDP protocol) or others
  • Knowledge of Modelling with Matlab / Simulink & code generation
  • Basic understanding of simulation tools to test the CAN communication links, like CANoe...
  • Teamwork within the team of Mechatronic Implementation Engineers is the core for success.
  • Advanced level of both written and spoken English and French language


Additional competencies depending on the job evolution are required as expressed below:P

  • Good knowledge of the different sensors available on the market for Railway applications
  • Experience in system development for train applications
  • Experience with Mechatronic System Architecture, failure modes (FMEA), cooperation with RAMS for determining the safety functions and the corresponding SIL level
  • Modelling with Matlab / Simulink, code generation, White & Black box testing, preparations for co-simulation
  • Solid knowledge in Mathematics…
  • Good knowledge of signal processing, preferred with Matlab/Simulink or similar
  • Experience with the European standards like EN50155 for hardware
