Purpose of the Job

 

The Automatic Train Control (ATC) Team Lead is responsible for the management and successful execution of all ATC testing activities in the field supported by subsystem specifications documents, project strategy & while conforming with company policies (including EHS, railway safety, local regulation, customer and professional standards). This role leads the preparation and execution of the approved Test Procedures in support of the TTC YUS project under a Brownfield environment where the various testing activities take place during the day or during non-revenue hours (Nights and Weekends) as deemed necessary to achieve project milestones. For the role, it is mandatory to succesfully complete the Subway Rule Book training for Contractors provided by the Toronto Transit Commision. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and executes ATC testing activities and plans in support to the TTC YUS CBTC Project for railway signalling under the direction of the T&C Manager (PrCOM)
  • Performs all specific testing activities according the approved testing procedures / documentation and project driven priorities.
  • Responsible and accountable for assigning the ATC testing activities to his/her team
  • Responsible and accountable for managing Testing and Commissioning Issues related to the ATC Subsystem until resolution
  • Communicates with other subsystem T&C Leads to organize, manage, coordinate and support the various testing activities of all subsystems
  • Adheres to Testing schedules and Testing plans as agreed with internal and external customers while maintaining a high quality level.
  • Adaptable to variable Work schedule (including nights/weekends) to support customer closures / testing activities in this Brownfield environment as dictated by the customer site access, availability of resources and other conditions.
  • Applies extensive expertise to troubleshoot technical issues & supports inivestigation of issues with other subystems.
  • Performs activities with quality, customer expectations and efficiency in mind such as Test Results reporting, record keeping of results, etc.
  • Uses and adheres to the use of PPE as defined by the Project EHS plan, Alstom rules, and customer Safety requirements;
  • Alerts the hierarchical superiors by any risk identified during the testing activities (Sub-System Design Leader, Project Commissioning Manager, Project Manager, Regional Center T&C Manager, etc.)
  • Reports on the anomalies arising during site testing and interfaces with engineering team towards resolution of anomalies.
  • Leads or participates in technical discussions for his sub-system directly with customer and represents / protects the company’s interest.
  • Reports on a weekly basis to the PrCOM on progress and issues.

 

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience preferably in rail signaling industry and with Testing Experience as part of a T&C or V&V Team
  • Knowledge of rail signaling (moving block / fixed block / CBTC) and HMI elements required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
  • Experienced in maintain project KPIs and tracking completion of testing activities using excel or equivalent tool
  • Experienced in Leading Others
  • Excellent Technical Writing skills for preparation of Test Reports and communicating Test Results / Issues at Technical and Managerial Team levels
  • Experienced in communicating technically with external and internal stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology or equivalent combined experience + technical education (electronics/electrical/computer/railway)

  • Valid driver’s license with clean record considered an asset

  • Knowledge of Alstom Products considered an asset

Organisational Reporting

The T&C ATC Team Lead is a member of the Field Testing and Commissioning Team. He reports to the PrCOM & interfaces with many teams: local partner or sub-contractor, customer, other T&C teams, other Alstom product line T&C representatives, engineering team and many other different sources of technical knowledge as needed for site support.

  • Direct reporting: Project T&C Manager and Regional Centre T&C Manager.
  • Indirect reporting: Project Manager.
