Prepare, plan and execute Testing & Commissioning activities in support of  Metrolinx project while working in a Brownfield environment where various testing activities may require a percentage of the work to be performed during non-revenue hours (Nights and Weekends).

 

The headquarters for this position is the ALSTOM office, located in downtown Toronto, however a significant time will be spent in OAKVILLE at the customer's Network Operations Center (NOC). Additionally, the position may require occasional travel to other sites on the MLX system as required.

 

The position requires that the T&C tester work closely with the V&V team and the Tester in Charge on the creation and development of documentation related to field activities to cover project requirements and document test results.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Prepares and executes testing activities for technologies of railway signaling under the direction of his/her hierarchy and in conformance with Alstom Transport policies and standards.
  • Develops and Reviews T&C procedures for the signaling sub-system and against contractual requirements
  • Execution of specific Testing activities according to the testing procedure / documentation and Sub-System Team Leader a/o PrCOM instruction.
  • Adheres to Testing schedules and Testing plans for internal and external customers
  • Performs activities with quality while meeting customer expectations and project schedule
  • Capture all test results clearly and accurately and prepare technical test reports for customer submission.
  • interact with Engineering and V&V Sub-System leaders for optimizing site test and investigation of testing issues.
  • Uses the correct tools and equipment to perform the electrical and mechanical test activities. Ensures the equipment and tools in their care are calibrated and easily tracked.
  • Uses and adheres to the use of PPE as defined by the EHS plan and customer requirements;
  • Alerts the hierarchical superiors by any risk identified during the testing activities, and alerts management (Sub-System Leader, PrCOM, PM, RC TCM, …) if any EHS risk is identified.
  • Read, understand and create Test Plan, Procedures, PPDS, SSWP's, certificates and other documentation as may be required, in coordination with T&C Leader.

 

Experience

  • At least 1 year working in Rail signaling industry with ATS, HMI, OCG, FEP, Track Layout, and ICONIS.
  • Direct experience with the Metrolinx system and operating envrinment considered an asset
  • Knowledge of rail conventional signaling (fixed block) and other signaling testing elements considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Teams and Word)
  • Proficient in WireShark and VBA 
  • Experience with  the V-Model system design process
  • Experienced in interpreting engineering drawings (i.e. Book of Plans, Schematics, Relay Logic)
  • At least 5 years proven hands-on testing experience with signaling systems and/or complexity as functional tester in similar role.
  • Experienced in writing/checking technical reports and communicating at Technical & Managerial Team levels
  • Experience with projects and customers under Transport Canada and Canadian Transportation Agency.
  • Experience or qualification in/with CROR, GCOR, or NORAC considered an asset.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology (electrical/computer/computer science)
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record considered an asset.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Network Telecommunications experiance considered an asset.

Desirable Skills/Certification

  • Have knowledge in Metrolinx Operating Rules
  • Experience with ALSTOM process and procedures
  • Previous experience with the specific Customer
  • Experience with ALSTOM equipment

 

  • Language skills: Fluent in English.

 

  • Organizational Reporting:
  • Direct reporting: Project TiC / PrCom and Canada T&C Department Head.
  • Indirect reporting: Team Lead, Project Manager.
