Objective

 

Alstom is seeking a Risk Engineer/ Coordinator. This individual will be responsible to identify risks and opportunities of the Project by analyzing contract and project documents and to maintain a risk register that tracks overall progress and the accomplishment of specific actions. They will also support in implementation of quantitative models of cost and schedule, including quantitative risk analysis tools.

 

Responsibilities 

 

Risk Management Policy and Procedures:

  • Adheres to all project/risk management plans and all Alstom procedures in force
  • Identify Project members to understand their training requirements in the  discipline of Risk Management and schedule regular seminars and training courses

 

Risk Identification and Assessment:

  • Participate in necessary risk identification ‘brainstorming’ sessions with Risk/Project Managers
  • Assist in the coordination of risk inputs that includes identification and assessment of risks with different sub-systems 
  • Follow up project team members to finalize their assessment on time based on project needs

 

Risk Mitigation and Monitoring:

  • Help Risk Manager/Risk owners for organizing risk workshops and risk reviews
  • Participate in the implementation of risk management tools for quantitative cost and schedule risk analysis
  • Responsible for tracking and monitoring progress on risks and risk mitigation actions according to the commitment dates adequate to the project needs

 

Risk Reporting:

  • Alerts the Risk Manager and Project Manager or any other leader of the project team in the event of a significant discrepancy between the mitigating actions and the actual progress
  • Propose new KPI tracking initiatives
  • Assist in producing regular Risk Assessment Reports, training material and presentations
  • Promoting the Alstom Code of Ethics and adhering to the highest standards of ethical conduct

 

Performance Measurements:

  • Understanding of design and construction contracts and the relationship between risk management and controls/management functions including project management, change control, planning & scheduling, cost & commercial management, and reporting
  • Assist with development of risk management documents and functional guides
  • Knowledge of the risk management process and propose its adaptation to project needs; understand how risk and contingency are computed in projects
  • Contribute to fostering a knowledge sharing culture by actively participating in the risk knowledge networks and collaborative forums

 

Educational Requirements

 

Mandatory:

  • University level degree in Engineering, Business administration

 

Desirable:

  • Diploma or Degree level Project/Risk Management Qualification
  • IPMA C/D;CAPM/PMP
  • Professional Engineer designation as per Canadian regulations 

 

Experience

 

Mandatory:

  • Professional experience 1-3 year
  • Related internship, co-op, or work experience, which includes risk management preferably within the railway industry
  • Good knowledge and understanding of ISO31000 and PMBOK

 

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with Monte Carlo simulation and quantitative risk analysis tools(@Risk, PRA, Safran, Acumen)
  • DRMP, PMI-RMP

 

Competencies & Skills

  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to manage competing priorities effectively
  • Ability to work with a diverse workforce in intercultural environment by adhering to Alstom’s HR strategy of Agile, Inclusive and Responsible principles
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders; establish trust, credibility and respect
  • Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Solid proficiency in MS Office programs especially MS Excel
  • Awareness of International Risk Management Standards and Quantitative risk analysis tools
