At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Imagine playing a central role in reducing the carbon footprint of Canada’s busiest public transit system and doing so with a consistently ranked Top Employer with a global reach. As part of the ONxpress consortium, Alstom is proudly working to transform the collective mobility of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) through the On-Corridor Works project, and we are hiring for hundreds of roles. The GO Expansion scope : new electric locomotives, fleet upgrades, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications and digital systems, maintenance, and much more.

Objective

The train movements are controlled by Automatic Train Control (ATC) System in a safe way. The Trackside ATC is responsible to send to Trainborne ATC the track conditions that allow entering in a given segment. Those conditions could be: point machines at right position, track clear, speed restriction, route set, etc. The Trainborne ATC compares the information received from Trackside ATC against train actual conditions (speed, position, track, direction) and can restrict its movement if there is any risk to go over a safe limit.

European Train Control System (ETCS) is the ATC solution chosen for GO Expansion project.

For the ETCS onboard design, the PrEM manages the technical contractual scope of the project ensuring its delivery according to the quality, cost, performance and scheduled commitment originally agreed and, if applicable, updated as a result of negotiated variation orders.

Responsibilities

Manage the technical contractual scope of the project:

  • Be accountable for the customer acceptance of the project solution
  • Manage the project technical risks and the corresponding mitigation plan
  • Together with the Project Manager, in case of contractual scope evolution, rise variation order and manage it
  • Validate the technical design choices with the peers and Solution Director
  • Identify which are the applicable regulations in the customer country/city and ensure they are taken into account in project solution design

Manage the project solution, including the customization and specific configuration of the generic solution to meet Quality, Cost, Delivery and Performance (QCDP) commitments:

  • Deploy the applicable engineering process, methods & tools on the project
  • Manage and participate in the evaluation of the project engineering team
  • Share Environment, Health and Security (EHS) rules with project engineering team
  • Support assessment of the teams involved in project engineering activities, including the ones belonging to a different Regional Center.
