Join us as Project Accountant- GO Transit Operations, and you’ll be looking at a career-defining role based in Toronto (ON), CA.

 

Be the navigator to the project manager to ensure focus on the achievement of the project financial goals. Control and provide all required financial information about the project and the site.

Responsible for all activities related to financial management and controlling of various Services contracts/sites/business, including financial performance reporting, measuring and controlling, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, asset management and Cash management, monthly journal entries, invoicing.

Generate, using the various fleet management systems, costing and life cycle reports and analysis.

Maintain the integrity of all financial records in order to comply with divisional, audit and legal standards.

  • Ensure adherence to all relevant Financial processes and Guidelines
  • Support OSC/CASRA/Other audit requirements and ensure closure of identified gaps.
  • Support External Audit Process (in close cooperation with A&R)

Assist with financial aspects of new Service start-ups.

Develop, maintain and foster a strong working relationship with management of the different Service sites by providing financial information and analysis in order to check compliance with Budget/ Forecast and focus on positive financial results. 

Provide early warning of risks and opportunities to allow accurate, timely information for business decision making including review and investigation of monthly cost variances.

Initiate, implement and follow-up of measures to support the accomplishment of financial targets, and highlight areas needing improvement.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Monthly financial reporting and analysis
  • Support of Project related reporting (PPRS, etc.)
  • Annual Budget process, forecasting
  • Transactional processing (Internal orders, setting-up cost centers, correction of accounting GL entries, etc…)
  • Bid Support

 

REQUIRED PROFILE:

 

  • University degree in Accounting and/or Finance
  • 5  to 7 max. years  of experience with a strong emphasis on cost accounting in previous positions
  • SAP, Microsoft Office (minimum: intermediate to Advance Excel, Word, etc…)
  • Must have strong business skills and financial acumen (complex environment) with strong analytical and teaching skills (high amount of interfacing with non-financial people).
  • Flexibility / versatility – Ability to work with VP’s as well as shop floor workers.   Ability to work in a constantly evolving environment (field customer service).
  • Innovative: Field environment is less “controlled”, or stable than a plant environment.  Must be innovative in finding ways to get things done.
  • SAP Knowledge is an asset. Strong Excel knowledge in imperative.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and to the point.
  • Critical thinking – Responsible for arriving at their own solution when faced with new problems.
  • Reports directly to Head of Services Project Controlling with a dotted line to GM of Service sites.  (In order to ensure proper adherence to GAAP)
  • Only Finance person on site therefore the candidate must be autonomous
  • Job involves mandatory traveling (approx. 1 -2 weeks in total. Off-site meeting, visit to other sites, training, etc.).
