Purpose of the job

•             The Maintenance Engineer will be a primary source of technical support for the BT Services maintenance team at the Eglinton Crosstown LRT system in Toronto. The Maintenance Engineer will address all technical aspects of the LRT system, but also be a resident “expert” in one or more major component groups of the LRT system.


Key responsibilities

1.           •             Develop and accurately maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all site systems assigned in accordance with contractual requirements, customer and company directives, and proscribed maintenance practices for specific equipment

•             Facilitate repairs of system components according to system drawings, manuals, and test procedures, in accordance with BT and PA safety, workmanship, and quality standards.

•             Source and obtain associated special tooling and equipment as needed.             

2.           •             Develop, deliver, and document appropriate technical training including testing and certification to technicians and other personnel as determined by General Manager, in collaboration with the Human Resources and Training Specialist and according to the client and regulatory requirements and industry good practices   


3.           •             Investigate age, maintenance, and design-related performance trends. Identify root causes of failures and develop corrective action plans.

•             Prepare Engineering Investigation Reports and Root Cause Analyses of emergent equipment failures as needed.

•             Provide engineering calculations, technical specifications, test procedures, and lists of materials for project execution.      

4.           •             Cooperate and support internal and external audits, provide technical support to improvements and upgrades of the system, and act as management representative as needed.    


  Job Requirements


Qualifications & Functional Knowledge


•             Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Associate’s degree in same combined with related experience acceptable.

•             P. Eng or equivalent is required.

Relevant experience required (i.e. directly linked to the requirements of the position/role)

•             5 years of maintenance-related experience with at least one in an O&M environment required

•             Signals & Communications experience

•             Working knowledge of maintenance management processes or systems

•             Demonstrated ability to understand and coordinate complex technical systems

•             Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Specialized or cross-functional knowledge / relevant experience required by the position/role

•             Experience in the railroad or transit system industry would be considered an asset.
