Multi-disciplinary environment working with the design, engineering, and the commissioning of integrated radio and TCP/IP networks. Solutions utilize licensed and unlicensed voice and data radios, LAN/WAN networks, and back office servers as well as other communication links between locomotives, between locomotives and wayside equipment, and/or between wayside and central office locations:

Knowledge of network hardware including servers, routers, and other computer devices
-
Use system requirements to design and deploy networks and virtual solutions
-
Develop testing, verification, and validation procedures as well as execute the procedures
-
Strong project management and organizational skills.

Create and maintain documentation including System Functional Specifications and Interface Control Documents
-
Trace system requirements to DOORS
-
Work with RF and assist Lead System Engineer as needed
-
Produce V&V test plans under the supervision of Project V&V Leader
-
Produce requirement based V&V procedures and datasheets
-
Author Project V&V test reports
-
Execute and lead V&V testing across multiple platforms
-
Perform verification reports for requirements, design documents, test reports, etc
-
Follow V&V technical processes in line with business objectives for technical and project team environment
-
Document test results, identify problems and solutions, and communicate with Engineering
-
Perform Communications Engineering tasks in support of program objectives
-
Trace system requirements to DOORS
-
Understanding of of system and subsystem-level requirements
-
Develop & peer review test procedures and documentation to validate system requirements
-
Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
-
Radio troubleshooting, propagation design, post processing, intermodulation studies, and radio dimensioning
-
Network troubleshooting
-
Ensure DCS project team members are aligned with V&V plan
-
Ensure documents be delivered as per project Documentation plan (Documentation Master List) in line with project DFQ Gate Reviews milestones
-
Participate in radio and network design activities
-
Participate upon request to Installation & T&C activities
-
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
-
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college and course work or work experience in networking or telecommunication
-
0-3 years experience
-
P. Eng certification or in progress
Desired Characteristics:
-
Understanding of TCP/IP and LAN/WAN
-
Radio propagation tools
-
Radio coverage post processing software
-
Mapping software such as Google Earth or MapInfo
-
Analysis, system performance improvement, and troubleshooting of a radio network
-
Spectrum Analyzers, Vector Network Analyzers and drive test equipment.

Radio technologies such as P25, cellular , WiFi, and TETRA, etc.
-
Design and implementation of an 802.11 AP network
-
Writing and performing test cases on both radio equipment and a radio network
-
Writing and performing test cases on both network equipment and network
-
Proficient with MS Office
