Context

  • In order to increase tender competitiveness and project performance, Alstom is willing to carefully monitor the variable cost during the development phase (ie from tender set-up up to end of design phase)
  • To do so, a new Métiers is being developed within engineering : design to cost. Cost will be managed in the development phase as any other technical performance
  • Such Métiers is not only in close relation with all engineering Métiers (chief engineer, mechanical design, system design, electrical design, etc.) but also with all the key stakeholders : project management, sourcing, industrialization, suppliers
  • The operational model involves two jobs
    • Train cost Engineers. In the project core team, transversal role to monitor the Train cost, to handle the business cases, to report the opportunities and risks
    • Product Cost Engineers. Dedicated to one discipline (mechanical, system, electrical), expertise role to assess the cost of the design along its construction, bring proposals and support finally sourcing negotiation

    

 Product Cost Engineer dedicated to traction

  • Set relevant target costs for his scope (mechanical, system or electrical)
  • Support technical business cases by costing analysis
  • Assess the cost of the design along its construction by a could cost
  • Propose and assess alternatives based on alternatives design and/or industrial processes
  • Support sourcing negotiation by providing a should cost
  • Develop (or contribute to develop) costing tools
  • Design (or contribute to design) cost training modules for his discipline

 

Organization

The position reports to the Product Cost Manager.

Collaborating network will be Trains System Engineers, System Engineers, Product Experts, Industrial Leaders, Supply Chain, Buyer and all the Costing Community.

 

The position will be located in France, Tarbes (65) with some punctual travels to Alstom sites.

Educational Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in engineering and / or Purchasing
  • Technical background
  • Railway products culture is appreciated

 

 

Experience:

Mandatory: 2 years in Industry or other Companies with product development stakes

Desirable: Railway Industry knowledge: products, customer, supplier and normative stakes
