The Maintenance Technician C will troubleshoot and identify failure causes; repair or initiate the repair of failed items and perform recovery/corrective or preventive maintenance of vehicle and wayside systems, subsystems, and components. Preventive maintenance, inspection, and adjustment tasks and procedures are well established and require normal supervision. Incumbents will follow the direction of higher level personnel in preventive or corrective maintenance phases of work. Associates exercise considerable latitude and open judgment in the troubleshooting and recommended repair of equipment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Maintenance Technician C is responsible for the following established procedures, as appropriate:

  • Inspect vehicles and related equipment to detect failed or improperly operating equipment.
  • Operate trains, doors, guideway switches, and power distribution systems in a manual mode.
  • Perform electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems inspection following established procedures or other written or verbal instructions.
  • Repair or replace defective parts or equipment utilizing manuals, drawings, specs, and other written or verbal instructions.
  • Respond to system failures to recover vehicles and restore system operation.
  • Respond to customer requests in a timely fashion
  • Assist passengers during emergency operations.
  • Report suspicious or unusual activity or behavior.
  • Participate in training programs.
  • Prepare reports or daily logs, as required
  • Observe all established safety procedures.
  • Perform housekeeping and administrative duties; shipping/ receiving, as necessary.
  • Manually operating a train with passengers onboard during recoveries.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge in basic electronic theory.
  • Aptitude for mechanical operations and operation of equipment.
  • Knowledge in the use and application of a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge in the use of simple electronic equipment.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of tasks and duties.
  • Capacity to learn a variety of equipment operations.
  • Willingness to work various shifts, as required.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Preferably an Associate degree (A.S.) in a related mechanical or technical discipline and/or Vocational Training/Certification in a related discipline.
  • Previous work experience may be recognized in lieu of formal education.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and bulletins written in English; ability to fill out forms and documents related to maintenance.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Competency in performing basic mathematic calculations at the secondary school level.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Capacity to resolve problems and derive conclusions using technical manuals, verbal instructions, drawings, or diagrams.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Employee may be required to work in a train yard with live power tails and moving equipment. Employees are required to be able to operate heavy equipment, cranes, forklifts and Company vehicles.
