Your future role


Take on a new challenge and apply your maintenance expertise in a cutting-edge field. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will work alongside a close-knit team of technical professionals who support the Sydney Light Rail operation in Lilyfield, NSW. It’s an exciting time to join as we build this new team, who will primarily be responsible for overhauling rollingstock bogies. We have multiple positions available joining initially on a 24 month fixed-term contract, but with genuine potential to become permanent. We have options available to join day shift only (Mon – Fri, 6am – 2pm) or our rotating roster, which is a combination of day shift (5am – 4pm) and night shift (4pm – 3am).

 

We’ll look to you for:

 

  • Carrying out heavy overhaul maintenance on rolling stock bogies which will include:
    • Removal and installation of bogies
    • Cleaning and preparation of bogies and components
    • Replacement of bearings and wheels using various specialised machines
    • Rebuilding of gearboxes and traction motors
    • Overhaul of braking systems
    • Operate workshop equipment and tools safely and effectively
  • Fault Diagnosis: Identify defects and implement corrective actions in line with engineering specifications.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all work complies with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and parts usage.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and other technicians to meet overhaul schedules.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all WHS requirements and promote a safe working environment.

  • The ability to thrive within a dynamic, fast-paced maintenance operation.
  • A real team player, with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Sound understanding of mechanical systems, bearings, suspension, and braking components.
  • The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and maintenance manuals.
  • Experience within a similar role, ideally in heavy mechanical maintenance (preferred).
  • Certificate III Engineering (Mechanical Trade), Certificate IV Aeroskills (Mechanical) or equivalent qualification.
