About the role:

 

Alstom is seeking a Head of Accounting, ANZ to lead our accounting function from our North Sydney head office. Reporting into the ANZ Finance Director, you will foster a collaborative environment, drive compliance and process excellence, and partner with colleagues to support operational success and sustainable growth. This is a key opportunity in a global leader in sustainable mobility, where you will collaborate closely with regional and global finance teams, business leaders, and project stakeholders to deliver strong governance, technical accuracy, and value-adding financial support across the ANZ region.

 

Your future role:

 

  • Lead the ANZ accounting team working in close collaboration with Global Finance Centre teams, ensuring accurate and timely month-end close, group consolidation, statutory, and management reporting.
  • Maintain high standards of governance and compliance across Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS), taxation/GST, payroll accounting, procure-to-pay (P2P) processes, and coordination of internal/external audits.
  • Prepare and contribute to group financial reporting packs, intercompany accounting, transfer pricing, and maintenance of the group chart of accounts in close collaboration with global teams.
  • Support cash management, treasury routines, working capital monitoring, budgeting, forecasting, and funding requirements through proactive analysis and input.
  • Operate as a trusted, approachable business partner to ANZ leadership, providing timely financial insights and accounting guidance to support projects, tenders, and commercial decisions.
  • Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and enhancements to internal controls in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Work effectively with regional teams, global HQ, and shared service centres, confidently presenting clear financial information to senior management and the Board.
  • Lead and develop a small accounting team in a supportive, collaborative style that fosters teamwork and shared accountability.

 

About you:

 

  • Tertiary degree in Accounting or Finance, along with CPA or CA qualification.
  • Prior experience in a large multinational business and one of the Big Four accounting firms.
  • Highly proficient in SAP and BI tools (Power BI, QlikView, or equivalent).
  • Strong technical knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Knowledge of the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) and related requirements.
  • Exposure to M&A integration of subsidiaries, joint ventures, associates, and legal entity simplification.
  • A collaborative leader who thrives in complex, matrixed organisations and builds strong, trusting relationships across functions, interstate teams, and overseas shared service accounting centres.
  • Exceptional attention to detail combined with the ability to prioritise effectively and deliver in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
