Alstom is looking for a

 Technical Bid Manager

to be based in Stockholm

 

Your future role:

The Technical Bid Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the technical aspects of bids, ensuring the submission of precise and competitive proposals that align with standard solutions and commercial strategies. You will lead the technical team dedicated to preparing bids for potential projects in Sweden or globally.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bid Management: Oversee the entire bid process from initiation to submission, ensuring compliance with client requirements and deadlines.
  • Technical Expertise: Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to gather information, assess project requirements, and translate technical specifications into clear, persuasive proposals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with sales, project management, and other stakeholders to align bid strategies with business objectives.
  • Proposal Development: Create and manage high-quality bid documents, including technical descriptions, pricing, and project timelines.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct research to understand market trends, competitor strategies, and client needs, and use this information to enhance proposals.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline the bidding process and improve proposal quality, ensuring best practices are implemented.

 

We’ll look to you for:

  • Collaborate with the Bid Manager to estimate the engineering effort required for bid preparation.
  • Engage in negotiations with the Project Engineering Director to strategically allocate the technical team based on expertise and project timelines.
  • Work alongside System Application Architects to identify potential gaps between customer specifications and standard solutions, supporting the Bid Manager and Tender Leader in crafting an effective compliance strategy.
  • Design the system architecture based on the selected solution, with guidance from the Solutions Directors.
  • Serve as the technical liaison, coordinating with internal stakeholders (Installation, Testing & Commissioning, RCs Project Engineering, Development Centres) and external partners, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the bid’s technical strategy, including scheme plans and migration strategies.
  • Propose migration strategies in close collaboration with Installation and Testing & Commissioning teams when applicable.
  • Conduct a thorough compliance analysis of technical bid documents, including clause-by-clause reviews.
  • Consolidate and clarify the technical assumptions relevant to the bid.
  • Prepare and lead Technical Design Reviews to secure approval for the technical scope of the bid.
  • Oversee the preparation and consolidation of all technical documentation required for the bid submission.
  • Coordinate engineering quotations and evaluate risks to ensure consistency and competitiveness.
  • Support the Bid Manager during negotiations with the customer, identifying and addressing any technical changes that arise.
  • Facilitate a seamless handover to the Project Engineering Manager (PrEM) upon contract award.

  • Language: Fluency in both Swedish and English is essential.
  • Cost and Planning Control: Proficiency in managing engineering scope and budgets effectively.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of products, signalling systems, and standards within the railway industry.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills to guide and coordinate the team during the bidding process.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to effectively communicate, collaborate, and influence executives and colleagues.
  • Cultural Competence: Comfort working in an international and multicultural environment.
  • Soft Skills: Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive with a strong sense of anticipation.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities are essential for this role.
  • Education: Master’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Scientific disciplines, or Project Management.
