JOB TITLE & PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Job Title: Welding Coordinator or Engineer with IWE certification and  Trainer

 

Purpose of the job:

  • To coordinate the industrial control of the welding Process- during tender phase, product development, industrialization, manufacturing.
  • To support technology and activity transfers

In this respect the person in charge complies with Ethics and Compliance policies

ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES

Activities by step of the industrial process 

  • Tender:
    • Contribute to tender phase, especially in product design and industrialization to take into account industrial constraints and requirements in order to optimize costs and minimize risks when needed
  • Concurrent Engineering:
    • Contributes during specification and design phases to technical solution decisions associated to welding special process.
    • Build the Welding REX and interact with product engineering to redirect the design if necessary.
  • Industrialization:
    • Manage industrial risk through Process FMEA and associated improvement action plan. Foster generic FMEA – Welding for standard manufacturing process.
    • Define requirements and rules (Design for Manufacturing) for associated tooling necessary to start production
    • Qualify the product/process pair as well as industrial means to be put in place in line with the design.
    • Support sourcing and SQD teams in the suppliers’ qualification and in quality follow up for suppliers concerned by welding process, Contribute to development of suppliers
    • Manage evolution of quality control process dedicated to Welding.
    • Ensure deployment and validation of new processes in line with product / project planning
    • Issue relevant documents in the Quality System
    • Manages technicians that are eventually under his / her responsibility
    • Support Transfer of Technology on welding Process: documentation, process and means validation, training
    • Complies with EHS Alstom and external standards
  • Transmission:
    • Train the workers and EPU managers to execute & Understanding the process knowledge & acceptance criteria of Welding
    • Ensure continuous training and qualification of the workers to Welding.
    • Train support functions to business rules linked to Welding (Engineering, PME, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Quality)
    • Develop welding expert (IWT) /specialist (IWS/IWP) on new geographic area through welding Standards & qualification plan.

 

  • Execution / Serial manufacturing:
    • Guarantees internal control and good application of process rules in line with customers’ requirements
    • Performs internal and external audits, workstation inspection, stage inspection, Internal & Customer Hold point inspection.
    • Ensure day to day monitoring of welding domain business rules and solve issues concerning Welding.
    • In case of non-conformity or incident, investigate root causes, finds and implement repair solutions.
    • Demonstrate QCD and EHS improvement linked to SP through efficient action plans. Measure performance linked with site industrial objectives and through APSYS audit for instance.
    • Support Sourcing and Supplier Quality teams during quality crisis
  • Transverse:
    • Lead and ensure EN 15085-2 and ISO 3834-2 certification for the company.
    • Participate to meetings and working groups of the welding experts network
    • Propose improvement ideas and evolution of the business rules of their domain.

 

Key Job Authorities and Dimensions: (Expenditure/Hiring authorities, total budget resp., team size; etc.):

  • In case of major welding quality crisis (major technical risk, safety or financial), the expert must provide to the project manager, factually, a clear problem analysis (root causes, associated risks) and the options to exit the crisis, to enable him taking serenely position
  • He / She has the duty to control his / her external communication (written and oral) as it engages the responsibility of AT towards third parties

 

Performance measurements: (OTD, QCD, Sales, PMC, Orders, Gross margin, etc.)

  • Manufacturing and Quality documents are available in due time and to the good quality level
  • Qualification reports of operating modes are issued in line with the schedule
  • Zero non-conformity during internal or external audits
  • Level of deployment of welding process  standards rules
  • Contribution to site industrial QCD targets.
  • Contribution to quality improvement through DPU reduction
  • Reactivity and consistency during expertise during defect or incident
  • FAR/FAI/ FMR/SMR validated for all installations involving SP and flagged as “technical or industrial risk”
  • Reduction in training hours.

 

EXPERIENCE PREREQUISITES & REQUIRED COMPETENCES

Educational Requirements:  Describe the minimum educational requirement/level

Mandatory:

  • Engineering degree in mechanical or metallurgical engineering.
  • Qualified “International Welding specialist & Practioner”  IWS/IWP  Preferable with knowledge of AWS (For RSW)

Desirable:

  • Bachelor Or diploma – Mechnical / Welding Engineering”.
  • With IWS/IWP certification.

Experience:  Describe the knowledge and experience required for this role

Mandatory:

  • 10 to 15 years’ experience in Relevant industrial method on welding.(TIG, MAG, SPOT, STUD)
  • Practice the concerned special process- welding – On job Operations  from 5 to 8 years (execution, definition, qualification)
  • Has been trained to Alstom Special Process standard or relevant welding standards training.
  • Is officially recognised as expert by the Special Process central coordinator or Certification with IWS/IWP with similar Rolling stock (or) Automobile Industries.
  • Task & Responsibilities as per ISO 14731- Specific level (Welding Coordination)

 

Desirable:

Automation of welding processes.

Digital monitoring of welding parameters.

EN 15085-2, ISO 3834-2 certification/surveillance audits.

ISO 9712 or ASNT level 2 in NDT methods- VT, PT, UT
