PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

  • To develop and improve Alstom's Obsolescense Management Process for products, projects and solutions.
  • To support Service Obsolescence Management activities in platform and regions.

 

NETWORK & LINKS:

1) Internal:

  • Projects & Operations, SIG & Service Product Units, P&I Platforms, Service Supporting Units, Sourcing & Supply Chain, Obsolescence Management CCN and other CCN.

 

2) External:

  • Customers, Suppliers, Industry Special Interest Groups, Partners and others.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manage the end-to-end activities once a component has been identified as obsolete to the point where the final solution is approved by all parties.
  • Responsible for the CCL Phase 2 and BPLRT obsolescence execution with cost effective solutions within the project budget.
  • Define Alstom organisation for Obsolescence Management, and be the process owner for Obsolescence Management, ensuring that Alstom's Obsolescence Management process is aligned with Alstom's objectives, customer requirements and practices.
  • Facilitate and support the development and maintenance of obsolescence management plans with Product Platforms, Projects (Build & Service), and Fleet Centres of Excellence.
  • Request and validate product structures and Bills of Material for obsolescence monitoring from Product Units (Design Authority), Suppliers and other sources such as Illustrated Parts Catalogue and load in TOMSYS for monitoring.
  • Manage central Obsolescence Management team; set and manage budgets.
  • Manage Reference Library for Obsolescence Management.
  • Determine obsolescence monitoring strategies for products and projects.
  • Review and validate obsolescence management plans.
  • Review incoming obsolescence alerts from external sources, load in TOMSYS and identify necessary actions.
  • Prepare periodic project obsolescence reports including Performance Indicators.
  • Facilitiate development of obsolescence solutions.
  • Together with Sourcing and Supply Chain, develop obsolescence management capabilities in Suppliers through use of Suppliers Charter Audits and Obsolescence Management Plans.
  • Facilitate supplier obsolescence review meetings.

 

EXPERTISE, TOOL & SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT:

  • Participate, promote and manage Obsolescence Management Core Competence Network (CCN).
  • Develop and deploy technical tools and systems including TOMSYS to manage obsolescence.
  • Ensure that future Alstom developments take into account of obsolescence management needs.
  • Share experience and knowledge of obsolescence management with others.

  • Improvements to business processes - time and cost saving, better execution.
  • Cost avoidance and cost savings in projects.
  • Management of information requests - time for response.
  • Quality of support given to project, product and tender teams.
  • Customer satisfaction.

COMPETENCIES & REQUIREMENTS:

1) Qualification:

  • University degree or equivalent recognised university degree.

2) Competencies & Skills:

  • 10 years experience in technical role in rail or similar industry.
  • Knowledge of rail vehicles and sub-systems.
  • Knowledge of Information Systems including ERP and Product Data Management.
  • Experience in Obsolescence Management.
  • Design and industrialisation of electronic equipment.
  • MicroSoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word).
  • Essential: MS Access and Visio + SAP (desirable).
  • Collaboration & Teamwork - managing a remote team and a remote network of correspondents.
  • Continuous Improvement - ability to innovate continuously and effectively.
  • Organisation and Planning - good time management and delivery.
  • Communication Skills - international and with internal and external correspondents at Senior level.
