EN-PR-40: Product Cost Engineer

 

To realize an estimation of the technical cost of the parts / systems defined by the engineering team

To analyze Electric scope to find opportunities 

To analyze Mechanical scope to find opportunities

To support Engineering team in the design to cost way of working

To participate at the creation of the target cost

To support sourcing team in the negotiation with the suppliers

 

Organisation Reporting

To adapt site by site, but the recommendation by order of preference is Engineering Dpt, Costing Dpt,Tender&Project Dpt.

Performance Measurement/KPI’s

 

  • Accuracy of the cost calculation versus technical product definition
  • Apply or develop a methodology to calculate the technical cost of a component/system along the product development cycle

    (from parametric to analytic methodology)

  • Propose improvements of the design or manufacturing process to reduce the technical cost.

  • Promote the cost culture in the engineering team

  • Provide the cost breakdown of the component to the sourcing team (negotiation support)

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Coordinate the whole Design to Cost studies and metiers to meet the agreed objectives
  • Insure the transformation of the listed opportunities into validated cost reduction versus base line
  • Based on the Specifications of a family of product :

    o Create a cost model on a family of product

    o Evaluate the technical cost of the component by using cost model approach

  • Based on the Design of the component :

    o Take assumptions about the industrial processes

    o Calculate the technical cost of the component by using the appropriated tool

  • Contribute to the improvement of the cost métier :

    o To be a referent on a process or a family of product

    o Share the feedback coming from the supplier

    o Formalize the saving opportunities

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Based on the priorisation issued by the Train Cost Leader analysis & cost follow-up:
    • Deliver and update at least monthly to the Train Cost Leader the main cost stakes to be addressed
    • Propose for each of them the relevant action plan using the Design to Cost processes, tools & expertise
    • Participate to those action plans and insure the transformation of the identified potential into validated savings
  • Communication:
    • Ensure the alignment with the product definition and put in place a close and fruitful communication with and between all the Design to Cost and Core Team métiers
    • Make sure their requirements are considered and that DtC results are known and circulated
