Could you be the railways safety manager we are looking for?
Your future role
- Performance and governance of Train Operations Safety at a central level.
- Definition and continuous improvement of the SMS framework for all regions.
- Oversight of safety performance, risk controls, and incident management processes.
- Ensuring consistent application of Alstom Train Operations safety rules and standards
- In coordination with the Services Railway Safety Director, lead the definition and deployment of the SMS across the TOSM scope.
- Define central safety rules, Project Safety Plan / SSPP, guidelines, procedures, and operating standards applicable to regional operating companies.
- Establish and monitor central safety KPIs, leading and lagging indicators, and promote standardised reporting.
- Conduct central SMS reviews and propose improvement actions.
- Develop and maintain central methodologies for risk assessment (FMEA, CSM‑RA, hazard logs, Risk Registers etc.).
- Review and validate risk assessments submitted by regions and projects.
- Provide expert advice on operational and technical changes with potential safety impacts.
- Ensure consistency and traceability of risk management across the Train Operations activities
- Define the investigation framework, methodology, and documentation standards.
- Review investigation reports prepared by regions/ projects and ensure quality and consistency of root‑cause analyses including Human Factors.
- Consolidate central lessons learned, ensure dissemination through REX processes, and monitor closure of actions.
- Ensure timely and accurate regulatory reporting is performed at local level.
- Define and maintain central audit programmes for Train Operations safety.
- Review audit results performed by regional/ project teams and ensure follow‑up of corrective actions.
- Assess levels of compliance with Alstom Train Operations rules and safety standards across all regions.
- Provide central recommendations to address systemic deviations.
- Monitor regulatory changes at international and national levels and assess impact on Train Operations.
- Maintain central safety documentation and ensure controlled diffusion to regions.
- Ensure alignment between Alstom internal standards and evolving regulatory requirements.
- Define central training frameworks and curricula for safety-critical competencies.
- Provide guidance on certification/qualification requirements and ensure monitoring through regional teams.
- Support capability building of local safety managers through workshops, expert sessions, and coaching.
- Define the central requirements for Emergency Response plans, integrated with the crisis management process
- Ensure regional adaptation and compliance with central templates.
- Review simulation exercises conducted by regions and consolidate lessons learned at central level
- Provide authoritative safety expertise to bid teams for Train Operations opportunities.
- Define safety deliverables, methodologies, and risk assumptions required during tender phases.
- Promote consistency of the Train Operations safety approach across all bids
Your profile

- You hold an Engineering/Training/Transportation/EHS degree or equivalent, with 10_15 years of experience in senior railway operations roles, including at least 5 years on critical projects regarding railway safety and train operations
- Experience in transversal or international assignments in leadership roles within operating railway companies or infrastructure managers is highly desirable.
- Strong project management and communication skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, leadership, and a strong results-oriented approach.
- Good knowledge of railway organizations, systems, safety requirements, as well as industry regulations and processes.
- Ability to manage conflicts and crisis situations.
- Experience in report writing, task and project management, and client interaction.
