As a Traction System Engineer, you will be part of the train system team which is a multi-discipline and multi-cultural team composed of 20+ system engineers who work on different systems (On board storage system, brakes, etc..) of the train. At the same time, you will be part of a global Alstom community (Traction core network) of Powertrain systems.

Your responsibilities:

You are responsible of the Train traction functions and performances and of the integration of the electrical Powertrain system. You thus endorse and ensure the compliance with the Customer and Certification requirements by performing the following activities,

 

  • Specify the electrical propulsion & braking functions and their performances at train level.
  • Define (or apply when already defined) the architecture of the function, allocating sub-functions to sub-system
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams (EMC, reliability, weight, safety, etc..) to identify the requirements at the train level and flow them down into traction system level requirements.
  • Evaluate the technical proposal by the sub-systems and help the team to select the solution.
  • Manage the technical deliverables of Traction designers and manufacturers during a project (Clause by clause analysis, First article inspection, etc.)
  • Perform analysis of norms, standards & local technical regulations (TSI, etc..) to review their applicability to the project and guarantee compliance if applicable. 
  • Simulate Powertrain System energy consumption on mission profiles
  • Responsible to present/support the project teams to perform external (with clients & suppliers) and internal technical design reviews at various phases of the project. At the same time identifying the technical risks and development of associated mitigation plans throughout the project development phase.
  • Responsible to lead/support the validation activities of the traction system by performing the following activities
    • Development and execution of the validation plan
    • Creation of Type test (functional and performances) specification and type test reports followed by both static & dynamic tests on the train.
    • Perform the tunning of the traction system to meet desired performances working with a cross-functional systems like braking, and signalling (if applicable).
  • Support the project team to increase the reliability growth of traction system during revenue service
  • Lead the traction system reliability growth by performing Root cause analysis with help of reliability engineers during revenue service 

 

This role will also give you a very good understanding/exposure both at train level and other key systems of trains (ex: braking, onboard energy system, auxiliary converters, etc..). It may lead you to a future position as a Train performance manager role or an expert in the Traction system domain.

 

 Your Profile:

 

  • Engineer with general engineering background mechanical and/or electrical

  • 5 year's experience working on electrical powertrain system

  • Leadership
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent problem-solving skills and self-reliant
  • Fluent English and French

  • Travels in France and abroad for short-term missions during sub-system and train validation
