Alstom is recruiting a System Engineer - Hydrogen for its Railway Rolling Stock division located in Saint-Ouen, near Paris.


Purpose of the Job

Lead technically the engineering studies on Hydrogen sub-system to reach the required performances at train level. Build and provide hydrogen expertise on Green Traction projects.

Collaborate with our green traction team to reimagine transportation fuels and train infrastructure.


List of typical Functions:

  • Protect against Fire: ventilation studies, valves selection and positioning
  • Study of hydrogen refuelling parameters and conditions.
  • Control – monitor – diagnostic of Hydrogen sub-system
  • Interface with external partners on hydrogen technical exchanges
  • Integrate the hydrogen subsystem on the train.


Accountable for:

The technical decisions taken concerned the Hydrogen traction


Responsible for:

  • Identifies hazards and technical risks concerning hydrogen, and mitigation by dedicated action plan agreed by Project Engineering Manager and concerned Metiers
  • Development of new solutions related to hydrogen
  • Ensuring the quality of deliverables linked with hydrogen sub-system (P&ID, specifications, installation diagrams etc.)
  • Intervention as technical expert on hydrogen on multiple projects / tenders
  • Contribution to working groups, collaborative R&D projects, and work with partners
  • Performing the transverse requirement allocations to the hydrogen subsystems in close collaboration with the relevant specialists
  • Performing requirement development, coming from reference and applicable documents from Metiers, Standards, Certification, Safety, Platform and Customer
  • Performing hydrogen sub-system FMECA in coordination with RAMS team
  • Contribute to the Technical Purchasing Specification when needed and engaged in commitments (CbC), risks & validation (including Design Reviews with suppliers)
  • On Project Engineering Manager request, participating to technical meetings with customer to provide support


V&V activities:

Responsible for:

  • Defining and performing hydrogen sub-system verification strategy in close collaboration with all Engineering metiers, Certification & Validation teams and TSS Team and Participating Units.
  • Writing the hydrogen sub-system level test specifications
  • Ensuring the hydrogen sub-system integration and tuning.


Your profile:

  • Advanced engineering degree
  • More than 3 years in technical expertise in hydrogen related industrial projects
  • Knowledge on Hazardous Area classifications
  • Skills in thermochemical processes, and possibly in the hydrogen value chain: production, transport, storage, uses etc,
  • Fluent English
  • Communication skills
