System Department Head

 

WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER:

As part of our Alstom Digital & Integrated Systems business unit, Signaling system for metro, the Saint-Ouen Development Center (Urban Center of Excellence – around 400 people) is in charge of Developing the main Alstom Urban CBTC Signaling Solutions (including Urbalis 400: a system deployed on more than 100 projects metro lines worldwide & Urbalis Fluence: our latest and most innovative Urban Signalling System).

 

As Head of System Department you will be a key member of the management team within the Saint-Ouen Development center and you will lead, develop and inspire the teams responsible for the architecture and design of our Signaling Systems, ensuring that solution align with the Alstom Urban Platform's strategic goals and meet quality standards. This role will require you to work collaboratively and consultatively with your peers within Development Center as well as across departments, to ensure your teams deliver the capabilities required to support Urban Platform overall success.

 

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Managing the System department's resource allocation (~70 people - internal, sub-contractors and overseas) in alignment with program-projects objectives, particularly in compliance with quality, costs, deadlines and performance commitments.
  • Leading and managing System teams, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentoring and developing team members, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation. Ensure mastery of skills and know-how of department in the overall Signalling System.
  • Working collaboratively across platform and project teams and the various product managers to identify the best areas for continuous improvement and ensure system deliveries with the required quality and in accordance with the commitments (delivery on time and withing budget).
  • Safeguarding the ability to change and innovate (including digitalization).
  • Establish effective communication between system and subsystem teams to harmonize engineering practices, streamline relationships, and align priorities and objectives.
  • Ensuring the application of engineering processes, practices and tools of the engineering environment made available and aimed at ensuring the quality and availability of the product solution and its documentation.
  • Participating in improving methods and tools with a view to increasing the productivity of the department, optimizing engineering costs and overall efficiency of Urban Platform.
  • Establishing metrics and monitoring systems to track performance and productivity.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety railways standards and addressing security concerns throughout the System development lifecycle.

 

WHO ARE YOU

 

  • At least 5 years of experience leading large teams, and 8 or more years of experience in system engineering ideally acquired in the field of railway signalling (CBTC) or in the Aeronautics, Defense or Automotive sectors.
  • Knowledge of the system development process (V cycle).
  • Experience in specification/design/system architecture engineering.
  • Sensitivity to security (SIL) and cybersecurity issues.
  • Ability to lead and manage teams effectively. Capable of mentoring, motivating, and guiding team members towards technical excellence and foster a collaborative environment within the team contributing to overall performance efficacy.
  • Commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity, and a supportive environment for learning and growth
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication with peers and senior leaders. Able to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders/mediate between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
