 Cost monitoring and optimization is key for Alstom to ensure its competitiveness in tender phase as well as during project execution. This is the core mission of Design to Cost Department.

As part of Alstom Saint-Ouen (93) site Organization, we are closely working with all technical leaders, Tender/Project teams and Sourcing community to ensure that all metallic parts of the train (among which the carbodyshell) are at a just enough level in terms of technical definition and cost.  

Always keeping a global technical and cost view, Design to Cost challenge is to contribute to the best Total Cost of Ownership at train level (acquisition + integration + maintenance…).


Purpose of the job


During tenders and projects development, reporting to the Design to Cost Manager, the Metallic Product Cost Engineer is in charge of evaluating product technical & economical features as well as identifying optimizations.


After an induction program, her/his mission will be to:

  • Support technical business cases by relevant cost analysis
  • Assess the cost of products (carbodyshell, metallic parts…) all along its design/development cycle, set up relevant target costs and establish technical and cost KPIs
  • Prepare and participate to sourcing negotiations by providing a should cost and sharing hypotheses in transparency
  • Generate optimizations ideas on the Metallic scope and make them applied on the project/tender
  • Participate to Design reviews and support Engineering department in a first shot Best design philosophy

Your profile :

Expected skills:

  • 5 years minimum in Industry (ideally Railway Industry) or other Companies with product development stakes
  • Technical background : Master’s degree in Engineering is a plus
  • Cost culture would be appreciated
  • Industrial processes knowledge and railway product knowledge would be appreciated
  • English speaker is a must


You are result oriented, with good communication skills as you will be in interaction with diverse internal and external interlocutors. 


Note this position requires punctual travels to Alstom sites and suppliers. 

Position based in Saint-Ouen (93).
