Within Central Engineering dedicated to Rolling Stock & Component, in the Train System Department, we are looking for a System Engineer working on architecture and system : brakes and air supply. 

By delegation of Train System Engineer, the Brakes System Engineer leads technically the engineering studies to reach the required performances at train level. 

As product referent, the Brakes System Engineer ensures his support as Expert on products and maintain his portfolio of reference solutions.

He will report to the Brakes Technical Team Manager and will have to work with a large community of stakeholders: Sourcing, Costing, Train Performance Manager, Bogie & Traction Engineer, RAMS, Service, Validation.




The brakes system engineer will have the opportunity to work during tender, project and product development phases.


During tender activities, the post holder will be in charge of following tasks :

  • Requirements capture & management: Capture Customer & End user needs and distil into Functional and non-functional requirements. Manage the derivation & flow-down of lower-level (Subsystem / component) Requirements.
  • Support Bid Technical Manager/Train System Engineering to identify the relevant solution among the Product Portfolio. 
  • Push the standard solutions on tenders.
  • Write the Technical Purchasing Specification and the Technical Description for Customer.
  • Drive the supplier technical proposals and build a Technical Assessment considering Sourcing constraints and Platform strategy.

During project activities, the post holder will in charge of following tasks.

  • Act as the referent for sub-systems during the project life cycle from Kick-off meeting till validation at train level.
  • Be accountable of Technical Purchasing Specification for the system.
  • Prepare Design Reviews with suppliers & with all internal actors.  
  • Ensure the quality of the deliverables and manage the technical Sub-System products keeping in mind the Products Strategy.
  • Follow Engineering planning and be focusing by On Time Delivery.

In the frame of R&D or expertise topics, the post holder may also be accountable to:

  • Participate or lead Catalogue Air Supply definition/ strategy with Sourcing Team.
  • Identify new technologies and innovations that provide opportunities to improve services and deliver benefits.
  • Define the future standard Air Supply to address core business and growth opportunities.
  • Ensure that solutions meet the required legislation and technical standards.
  • Participate and contribute to the council of Brakes Expert Network.
  • Control engineering technical change throughout the lifecycle.
  • Participate to internal R&D activities or Co-Development with supplier(s).
  • Be in support of 8D analysis when technical issues occurred on train in revenue service.
  • Lead return of experience on solution.


  • Graduated with a master’s degree, preferably in mechanical and around Brakes world, you have a recognized expertise (minimum 3 years) on Brakes.
  • You demonstrate good communication and organizational skills (ability to meet deadlines). You are result oriented and show intellectual curiosity and creativity. 
  • An effective team player who can interface at all levels within the organisation and who can operate successfully in a multi-cultural environment, working effectively with teams distributed across different sites/countries.
  • Fluent in English, you are eager to work with autonomy in an international environment and to face the challenges of the new Alstom.
