6-month internship - Customs Process & Tools Engineer (F/M)
Apply now »Date: 29 May 2026
Location: Saint-Ouen, FR
Company: Alstom
At the forefront of companies committed to a greener future, Alstom develops and markets mobility solutions that provide the sustainable foundations for the future of transport. Our product portfolio ranges from high-speed trains, metros, monorails and trams to integrated systems, bespoke services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility solutions. Joining us means joining a caring, responsible and innovative company of more than 80,000 colleagues worldwide.
We are looking for a full-time intern for a 6-month placement starting in September 2026, to join our Customs teams at Alstom Group headquarters in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine (93 – Seine-Saint-Denis). You will contribute to the roll-out of procedures and tools that enable us to declare and track our products more effectively when exporting and importing. You will interface with around one hundred contacts based across all regions of the world; this position will give you an international-facing experience while developing your knowledge of our products and customs regulations.
Your future role
You will work within the Group Tax & Customs team, reporting to the Customs Data Manager. On a day-to-day basis, you will work closely with central and local teams, in particular customs focal points, technical teams and users of customs management tools. You will help optimise customs classification processes and provide operational support for customs management tools, while developing innovative solutions to improve the overall performance of the customs function (SAP ERP, MDM database management tool, Business Intelligence, deployment of AI as business support for identifying customs classification anomalies, etc.).
We will call on you to:
- Build a reference guide of rules and best practices for the customs classification of products imported and exported by Alstom.
- Contribute to the roll-out, maintenance and improvement of the Power BI reports used by the customs function.
- Enrich and improve the reliability of customs data in the tools used by customs focal points (MDM, SAP).
- Take part in upgrade testing and in resolving system defects.
- Improve the support set-up (training kit, FAQs, guides, ticketing process, analysis of recurring issues) to reduce repeat requests. Provide first-line technical support to customs focal points.
- Optimise access management for the various tools (Teams, MDM, SharePoint, SAP, Power BI, etc.).
- Contribute to cross-functional projects linked to customs management, such as creating new customs codes or performing statistical analysis of existing data; automating tasks via Power Automate and other available tools; benchmarking and monitoring solutions available on the market; and automating regulatory monitoring.
- Take part in occasional visits to industrial or engineering sites to better understand products and processes.
Internship success indicators: number of customs classifications recorded; reduction of, or justification for, customs classification discrepancies between two countries for the same product; number of system defects and average resolution time; number of users trained; time saved through automation.
Your profile
We value passion and mindset more than experience. That’s why we do not expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we have listed those that we believe will help you succeed and thrive in this role:
- A student at an engineering school, with an interest in industry and technical products, and an appetite for supply chain, logistics and/or customs.
- Knowledge of, or an understanding of, technical concepts and basic units used in electronics, mechanics, electricity or physics.
- Natural curiosity and the ability to ask the right questions to explore a complex topic.
- Ability to analyse and break down problems into clear steps.
- Proactive in identifying innovative and pragmatic solutions.
- Knowledge of data management tools such as Excel and Power BI, or the ability to learn them quickly.
- Good written and spoken English (minimum B1 level) to communicate with all Group subsidiaries in writing (email, Teams) and verbally.
We will train you in the basics of customs practices applicable in an international industrial services company (the three pillars of the customs declaration, goods status, customs procedures).
You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We can assure you that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll feel proud. If you are ready to take on the challenge, we would love to hear from you!
