The Alstom Headquarters, based in Saint-Ouen near Paris, is looking for a Current Collection Engineer to join the team. In this role you will participate to the development of sustainable transportation modes, mainly related to rolling stock, on the topics of current collection, interaction between pantograph and catenary, pantograph design and design of fixed installation.


In this role you will be challenged from several sides: you will ensure that the electrical performances of the train are met, within the mechanical constraints of the pantograph installation, and you will ensure a correct design of the system composed by rolling stock and infrastructure. You will participate to the development of products for all regions on the globe and contribute to the R&D programs of Alstom. You will be part of the worldwide network of Alstom engineers working on current collection and interact with the many other disciplines needed to the development of the complex product that is a train.


We require rigor, independence, teamplay, creativity. You must already have bases in both mechanical and electrical engineering and willingness to travel regularly. Background in an industrial environment is a strong asset, as well as competences in both FEM and multibody simulations.


Main responsibilities:

  • Perform simulations of the dynamics interaction between pantograph and catenary
  • Analyse measurement and simulation data, postprocess and report results. Based on this, develop innovative and cost-effective solutions for Alstom tenders and projects.
  • Be the referent for all current collection topics with project and tender teams
  • Develop and improve diagnostic tools for catenary and pantograph maintenance system
  • Lead R&D actions related to the improvement of existing tools and the development of innovative solutions
  • Participate actively to the resolution of issues on the pantograph-catenary interface system with support to projects around the world
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the current collection network



  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree (Msc, PhD or equivalent) or other degree related to Fluid Mechanics
  • Good competences in FEM and/or multibody simulations
  • Management skills to lead R&D actions with a transversal approach
  • Good communication skills, pro-activity, team working, strategic vision
  • English conversational/writing/reading advanced level mandatory
  • French conversational/reading advanced level is preferred
  • About 2-4 years of experience in an engineering department in an industrial context is a strong asset
