Join us as Weight Management Lead Engineer, and you’ll be looking at a career-defining role based in St-Bruno (QC), CA.

 

Independently control train level mass and balance properties. Independently support mechanical architecture of new developments, optimizing layouts to ensure compliance with weight specific performance and safety requirements. Independently manage train level validation of mass and balance requirements. Support with measurements of sub-system weight and CoG.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Lead site based Weight Management activities, including project gate reviews and dialogue with management, customers, governing bodies and Metier.
  • Train level weight forecast.
  • Define mass allocations for sub-systems. Defend train level compliance with project mass & balance requirements.
  • Derive project mass and balance requirements.
  • Assess gaps between project and reference solutions, with their impact on train level mass and balance (considering changes in BOM, payloads, layouts, requirements and suppliers).
  • Assign mass targets for sub-systems. Monitor acceptance, and adjust accordingly (ie., negotiate between sub-systems, or propose changes to mechanical architecture). Benchmark allocations to ensure feasibility.
  • Contribute to supplier selection, especially where mass is mission critical.
  • Drive a regular conversation with sub-system teams to review the completeness and accuracy of their inputs.
  • Help design teams achieve their mass targets. Constructively challenge designs and integration solutions, drawing inspiration from best practices and database solutions. Manage associated risks and opportunities.
  • Independently define train level mass and balance compliance strategies, running weight reduction programs as required. Manage associated risks and opportunities.
  • Review project documentation in preparation for gates, in compliance with Alstom’s AVVA process.
  • Maintain an updated weight control structure for all vehicle and train configurations to simulate compliance with requirements. Review/query numerical models, drawings and supplier reports including first article inspections. Generate reports and deliverables required by Metier and/or customer. Ensure weight database is updated with definitive values (i.e., as measured).
  • Calculate line category and vehicle track access charges, as required.
  • Validate compliance to mass and balance requirements with physical measurements, including shim instructions for carbody to bogie installation, following Metier procedures. Support homologation and testing of other areas with ballast instructions.
  • Share site based experience with Metier.

 

REQUIRED PROFILE:

 

  • University or technical college degree.
  • Engineering degree is preferred.  (Desirable)
  • Proficiency in math, with a strong understanding of static mechanics.
  • Ability to work with modern numerical systems and databases.
  • Strong understanding of costs and capabilities in design, manufacturing and testing.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills. 
  • English basics in read/writing (level B2).             
  • Agile, inclusive and responsible.
  • Business acumen, with a customer focus (internal and external).
  • Hands-on, collaborative approach to problem solving.
