The Train Control and Monitoring System (TCMS) Wayside system is the ground based infrastructure and software collection that gathers, processes and makes data from the trains available to the end user. It contains the train performance and usage data required for the fleet management, operation and maintenance. Furthermore. It also allow modification and generation of train configuration files that are transferred to the trains.

 

Position goals : 

  • Understand the currently deployed system and handles the execution of the required corrections or improvements.
  • Lead, design, and validate the Wayside ground systems through the various interventions.
  • Interface with 3rd-party suppliers who develop or supply software or hardware solutions.

 

Responsibilities : 

  • Designs, codes and tests the required changes or improvements;
  • Based on requirements, the specifications of internal or external clients, and in compliance with mandatory standards, performs complete and detailed studies, drafts technical documents, approves technical documents and carries out mandates assigned by the Project Engineer and/or the Manager;
  • Participates in technical document reviews;
  • Prepare system documents for submission to the customers and suppliers;
  • Interacts with the Onboard software development team;
  • Generate the test procedures for system integration and validation. Conduct the validation and integration tests;
  • Support System Qualification and Field Engineering activities toward commissioning of the trains and wayside systems;

 

The candidate will work on already deployed systems and shall show strong autonomy, learning ability, problem solving and reverse-engineering skills.

The candidate will work in a new team under development and shall demonstrate leadership and adaptability.

 

Typical projects are :

  • Execute system improvements through SW development or 3rd party involvement
  • Analyze and correct functionality issues
  • Manage software component obscolescence by finding, developing or have a 3rd party develop an alternate solution.
  • Define and apply Wayside configuration changes resulting from Onboard changes

 

Desired profile :

  • University degree in software or computer engineering or computer or electrical engineering
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in a Windows environment
  • Good knowledge of C#
  • Experience with SQL database
  • VMWare and PowerShell, an asset
  • Demonstrate leadership and autonomy
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Be able to travel to the various customer sites across North America, if necessary, on an occasional basis
