Power Supply System Engineer (including Pantograph) provides technical input for all aspects of projects,including design and system integration and providing support in order to facilitate the delivery of projects within time and budget and maintain customer satisfaction. The role is fundamental in translating customer requirements/needs into appropriate solutions by providing system engineering expertise across all stages of the project’s lifecycle as an instrumental part of multidisciplinary teams.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review and analyse requirements: Customer,legislative and local Standards.
  • Review Customer / Product provided ‘Train Concept of Operation’ and identify risks or opportunities to the existing Product / Building
  • Blockdesign.
  • Review and analyse technical data and operational concepts to establish derived system/subsystem requirements and prepare train
  • concept/architecture that align with all relevant engineering scopes of the engineering teams,partners and suppliers.
  • Prepare Train-level concepts (e.g. Diagnostics Concept,Security Concept,etc.)
  • Coordinate with all engineering areas to align design decisions and ensure common understanding
  • Develop workplans and estimates as they relate to systems integration worktasks
  • Research,evaluate,and recommend systems/equipment/technologies based upon client and/or system needs
  • Coordinate system development tasks to include design,integration and formal testing
  • Create and maintain programmatic and technical documentation to insure efficient planning and execution
  • Draft technical instructions,engineering plans,technical designs,and other systems integration related documents
  • Develop workplans and estimates as they relate to the identified works
  • Interface with various team members such as management,administration,procurement,legal,and support staff on a regular basis
  • Support transition into production
  • Provide customer design related support : complexsystems failure analysis,field troubleshooting and solution integration
  • Develop and complete actions in system specifications,technical and logistical requirements and other disciplines
  • Manage and document train configurations
  • Integral part of the design team often making mechanical and electrical design recommendations based on experience. Determines the form, fit & function of the design & incorporates cost-effective & manufacturing concepts into the design. Also ensures that designs are completed on time meeting project schedules.
  • Interprets customer specifications to ensure that the design is compliant
  • Understands and uses supplier design & manufacturing data to aid in development of the design
  • Interfaces with engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, and outside suppliers as needed.
  • Coordinates, tracks, and manages external design and drafting efforts. Mentors less experienced engineers, designers, and drafters.

 

REQUIRED PROFILE:

  • BSc/MSc degree in Engineering, Electrical, mechanical or related subject
  • Solid understanding of systems life-cycle and corresponding activities
  • Has 3 years minimum practical experience with system life-cycle activities either during education or a workplacement
  • Member of OIQ, mandatory
  • Experience in the railroad integration of systems, an asset
  • Solid expertise in the design and integration of power supply systems
  • Solid expertise in complex systems failures analysis and solution integration
  • Has a solid understanding of the main functions directly interrelated with the system engineered as well as the corresponding influences and interfaces
  • Knowledge of Rational DOORS software is an asset.
  • French, is an asset
