The RAMS Engineer is responsible for planning and executing activities regarding Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and system Safety, in accordance with the QCD commitments of the program(s). In this role you support ALSTOM NAM Services activities across Canada and the USA, for Asset Life Management (ALM) programs such as vehicle overhauls or modernizations, and Alstom’s Operations & Maintenance (O&M) contracts
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare the RAMS program plans outlining the reliability, availability, maintainability, and system safety objectives on a whole train, single car, or system basis.
- Monitor progress of ALSTOM’s sister units and supplier activities for all the RAMS scope of work in the applicable programs, initiate corrective action plans when necessary to ensure compliance with ALSTOM’s objectives and customer requirements.
- Support System and Control engineers with techniques such as Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Safety Hazards Analysis (PHA, HRR, …) and consolidate them.
- Review the outputs for each design and test Work Package to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to the contract requirements, in terms of RAMS program plans.
- Participate and contribute to the design and gate reviews for all systems/subsystems.
- Present to the customer the reliability plans; support the Customer’s Safety certification organization.
- Implement Reliability Demonstration Tests and Maintainability Demonstration Tests, perform/coordinate the tests and issue the final report.
- Define and monitor the reliability, availability, and maintainability of the systems in passenger service, releasing monthly reports until the contractual criteria are met. Detect and report the systems that do not meet the objectives of the program, and assist the Project Engineer in the definition of corrective action plans.
- Coordinate the implementation of robust methodology such as FRACAS. Provide guidance to the project teams, either in overhaul programs or Operations & Maintenance (O&M) contracts
- Support the identification of clear root causes affecting reliability
- Maintain for the project the status of all the service failures (or Work Orders), and prepare a file documenting the system failure for each individual case. Lead Failure Review Board (FRB) meetings when necessary, and help identify the correct root-cause of each failure
- Track the equipment repair reports and determine if trends do exist in the failures that could require corrective action.
Provide safety expertise to Alstom ‘8D’ problem-solving process for incidents and root-cause analysis
REQUIRED PROFILE:
- 5 years of experience in RAMS engineering
- Strong communication skills
- Structured and organized, with hands-on approach
- Experience with railway vehicle systems and industry standards (MIL-STD-882, MIL-HDBK-217) is preferred
Travel of up to 15% may be required to support business meetings, or site visits.
