Your future role 

Take on a new challenge and apply your seasoned and analytical expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside innovative, dedicated, and collaborative teammates. You'll lead the charge in steering societies towards a low carbon future through Alstom's comprehensive mobility solutions. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (Engineering, Procurement, Project Management), coordinating Design to Cost studies and driving cost reduction initiatives, and much more. 

We’ll look to you for: 

  • Coordinating the whole Design to Cost studies and metiers to meet the agreed objectives 

  • Insuring the transformation of the listed opportunities into validated cost reduction versus base line 

  • Being the “voice” of the Design to Cost in the Tender or Project team, insure and organize regular Steering Committees to report on the progresses  

  • Animating the Design to Cost by applying the DtC tools and methodologies 

  • Calculating & regularly updating the “Cost by Unit in Dev” of the Train by IBS & Sub-Systems 

  • Define & agree the Recurring “Cost per Unit” target of the Train by IBS & Sub-Systems while getting the adhesion of the project stakeholders 

  • Coordinate the Costing resources & expertise 

  • Base on the Benchmark, DtC expertise & targets versus the Recurring Cost to Date of the train, highlight the main cost stakes and propose Priorities to the Tender or Project stakeholders. 

  • Listen to the Tender or Project team needs of Business Cases, adapt and agree the priorities with the Tender or Project core team 

  • Make sure the Design to Cost deliverables are delivered according to the DFQ cycle & Roadmap agreed 

  • Organize creative / brainstorming session (no taboo – openness – result oriented) to transform into validated savings, the Design to Cost potentials which have been identified by the DtC Analysis 

  • Establish the synthesis report, follow DtC KPIs and the evolution of the total ”Cost by Unit in Dev” at Train & Sub-System level 

  • Organize regular DtC Steering Committees to report it and ask the core team for for go / no go Arbitrations 

  • The Scope of work is limited to Recurring Production Cost (Material + Assembly hours of the Train and Sub-Systems) even if NRC are taken in consideration when meaningful in the Business Cases 

 

Accountabilities 

  • Based on the Deliverables issued by the Train Cost Engineer & the expertise of the Design to Cost team: 

    • Calculate and Validate the train Cost per Unit in Dev 

    • Calculate, Propose and Agree the Train Target Cost per Unit together with the project team at Train and Sub-System level 

    • Put the Target Cost and other DtC Targets in a DtC TRS and insure their diffusion to the project stakeholders 

  • Based on the Design to Cost process: 

    • Put in place a DtC governance with the métiers and with the project teams such as steering committees, KPIs & follow-up meeting 
    • Put in place the relevant deliverables to monitor the Design to Cost key success factors (such as Cost Calculation Note, Cost and Saving tracking, KPIs …) 

    • Build the dashboard to show it to the Tender or Project team 
  • Based on the priorisation issued by the Train Cost Engineer analysis & cost follow-up: 

    • Deliver and update at least monthly to the Tender or Project team the main cost stakes to be addressed 
    • Propose for each of them the relevant action plan using the Design to Cost processes, tools & expertise 

    • Participate to those action plans and insure the transformation of the identified potential into validated savings 
  • Communication: 

    • Ensure the alignment with the product definition and put in place a close and fruitful communication with and between all the Design to Cost and Core Team métiers 
    • Make sure their requirements are considered and that DtC results are known and circulated

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, 

  • Experience or understanding of procurement and/or sourcing processes (asset) 

  • Strong experience in mechanical engineering 

  • Experience within transportation industry (railway, automotive etc) or heavy equipment is required   

  • Proficiency in English; French is an asset, 

  • Strong communication and coordination skills to effectively manage stakeholders and drive projects, 

  • Ability to organize and lead creative and results-oriented brainstorming sessions, 

  • Proficiency in data analysis and cost calculation to support decision-making processes, 

  • Autonomous and proactive approach with the ability to exhibit technical leadership
