Candidate will play a key role in Alstom's Materials and Special Engineering Process team. He will bring expertise to Alstom's Train Design Center that is accountable for projects in the Americas region, and Alstom's supply chain, specific to durability and corrosion protection.

 

Responsibilities :

  • Define durability requirements for all materials and mechanical fixations, examining operating environment considerations such as but not limited to, climate, cleaning, vandalism and maintenance
  • Define strategies for surface corrosion protection and painting, working in close collaboration with Industrialization teams.
  • Build locally relevant training material based around corporate recommendations, and moderate awareness sessions with all stakeholders across Engineering, Industrialization, Procurement and Project Management.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and supplier quality reviews, acting as a gate keeper for durability requirements.
  • Identify risks of non-compliance and potential failure in revenue service 
  • Review and approved test programs to meet Alstom and customer requirements
  • Review and approve test reports
  • Design, examine, and evaluate welds, define appropriate symbols to be used on drawings to help ensure the integrity and longevity of Alstom and supplier products, and develop repair procedures as required
  • Plan, supervise, and document welding operations in accordance with relevant codes, contracts and/or drawings
  • Participate in supplier quality reviews and internal project gate reviews, identifying risks of non-compliance with technical requirements
  • Review and approved test programs to meet Alstom and customer requirements
  • Troubleshoot, working hands-on with internal design and integration teams and suppliers. Define corrective measures as required

 

Desired profile : 

  • Engineering degree with a background in Welding Technology, Metallurgy and/or Material Science.
  • Registered, or eligible to be registered soon with the OIQ (L‘Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec)
  • 5+ years of experience minimum in the field of welding/surface protection (design, review, quality assurance)
  • Good understanding of material properties including mechanical and chemical resistance
  • Understanding of railway specific standards is an asset
  • Refined soft skills that help build and maintain relationships with other Engineers/Designers in an office and with welders on the shop floor
  • Fluent in French & English
  • Available to travel occasionally outside of Montreal area (to supplier sites and customer meetings)
