Services Engineering is a key function of Services NAM (Americas). The function provides engineering expertise and technical solutions to the various Business Units (BU) of Services. We support Operations and Maintenance (O&M) sites, as well as lead the design efforts for Asset Life Management (Modernizations, upgrades, overhauls of rail vehicles) and support the Parts Obsolescence BU. We provide engineering support to all products maintained by Alstom that operate in the North American market (automated people movers, light rail vehicles, commuters, metros, locomotives…), as well as several of the infrastructure components (guideways, stations, depots, electrification and power distribution…).
Alstom has an opening for a Green Mobility Mechanical Design Engineer. The position is posted for our Saint Bruno office (Quebec, Canada). In Alstom Services, our focus is to provide excellence in customer support and develop innovative mobility solutions.
This candidate will work within Alstom NAM Services part of the Train Design Engineering team.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Develop a complete technical Scope of Work for rolling stock renovation and overhaul projects based on customer technical specification and train system requirements specification.
- Perform 3D models, design annotations, Bill of Materials and 2D deliverables in compliance with QCD commitments, expertise rules and processes:
- Realize stack-up analysis; Review of drawings and specifications.
- Prepare and document Mechanical Design Reviews, internal and externals (customer).
- Schedule of Mechanical activities and deliverables assigned, in compliance with quality and project master schedule;
- Designing products taking into account project requirements (performances, manufacturability, serviceability, testability, etc), regarding mechanical, electrical integration or piping integrations
- Reporting on Mechanical activities progress and alerting relevant N+1 in case of issue potentially impacting achievement of QCD commitments;
- Conduct engineering studies and prepare or lead the preparation of specifications for both internal and external presentation.
- Maintain and monitor written lists of open issues relating to the assigned work packages/tasks that need to be resolved, the related dates, and the status.
- Provide technical support to production teams and customers.
- Check supplier's and sub-contractor's Design Quality
REQUIRED PROFILE:
- BS Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in Electrical/Mechanical Design Engineering or two years in Railway, rail car product e.g. locomotives, rail passenger cars.
- Knowledge of metallic materials (physical properties and design), industrial processes (welding, bending, machining). Must be familiar with welding codes AWS.
- Required work experience in Catia v5 (at least 3+ years full time or <5000 hours).
- Preferred work experience in PDM / PLM (Enovia-DMA, 3DCom).
- Preferred experience on overhaul projects and reverse engineering.
- Good Communications and interpersonal skills including team work.
- Time management and reporting skill; Sense of urgency / priority.
- Structured and organized with Hands-on approach.
- Member of OIQ in Quebec
- Fluent in English and French.
Working Conditions (Industrial/Environmental)
Hybrid on-site office work with trips to manufacturing site.
Bilingualism
Proficiency in French and English is required. Knowledge of a third language is considered an asset when working with our international partners, suppliers, colleagues, and customers. In Quebec, French remains the primary working language of our company.
