An internship in fire safety engineering participates in multiple technical facets of a project, including design and material selection and providing support in order to facilitate the delivery of projects within time and budget and maintain customer satisfaction. The role is fundamental in translating customer requirements/needs into appropriate solutions by providing engineering expertise across all stages of the project’s lifecycle. You will have the occasion to experience the various layers of the engineer’s work at Alstom while being directly involved in a dynamic team. This is a position based in Kingston, ON.
YOUR INTERNSHIP
During your internship, you will be asked to perform the following tasks:
- Develop and implement your knowledge of fire safety, fire barrier design, fire, smoke & toxicity levels of materials but in addition to other transversal engineering domains such as weight management, ecodesign, etc.
- Participate in design review activities and update documents.
- Compile material information from external suppliers.
- Ensure regular communications with supply chain and and suppliers.
- Contact excternal labs for F&S tests to get information of specific lab test requirements.
- Interact with Requirement management and process specific project requirements.
- Participate in Interface management process, update interface documents, participate to multi-disciplinary reviews.
- Participate in daily and weekly meetings for project progress tracking.
- Support and participate in Change management process.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes.
YOUR PROFILE
- Be an undergrad student of mechanical or chemical engineering or equivalent (3rd year+).
- Curious and resourceful personality who likes the practical application of concepts compared to theory.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point and Visio).
- Strong communication skills English, written and spoken.
