Pursuing its strategy in matter of Interiors design development, Alstom is now deploying its Interiors Development Center (CDS) for the Americas Region in its St-Bruno, Canada Site, complementing the Sites of Bangalore, India and Valenciennes, France.  Each center has its own multidisciplinary Team of Expert Engineers, technicians, buyers, quality, industrial, Project Management, all specialized in Interiors domains.  Their mission is to develop the Interiors Products of the future and to execute the projects they are responsible for, from the Tenders and up to the delivery of materials to the assembly line.

Join us as Costing Engineer, Interiors Development Center (CDS), and you’ll be looking at a career-defining role based in St-Bruno, Canada.


As Costing Engineer of the new Interiors Development Site (CDS), you will play a key role through the development of new interiors components and sub-assemblies.  You will be responsible to evaluate and to maintain the costs of the incumbent Interiors components through the development cycle.  As the costing Engineer, you will participate to the creation of the target cost,  run ‘’design to cost’’ (DTC) activities with the designers to help optimize the designs and support the Procurements in their negotiations with the Suppliers.





Tender Phase:


  • Perform Macro costing to assess the cost impact of various requirements and norms, supplier localization scenarios.
  • Perform Supplier offer analysis vs internal costing evaluation, identify gaps and opportunities, assess the risk level and the target price
  • Perform Micro costing by improving the cost maturity of the budgeted offers.
  • Collect and analyse data by cross checking the different offers and communicating the return of Experience


Project Phase


  • Participate in design review: check and challenge solutions, propose cost optimization (raw material, processes, RDTC, etc.)
  • Build Supplier cost breakdown according to the bill of material.
  • Perform costing simulation to assess products price level under the same conditions of the supplier’s proposals.
  • Compare different Supplier offers, assess, and negotiate the technical and commercial proposal of the suppliers in line with the cost breakdown and according to the different cost factors.
  • Include in the Suppliers assessment the total cost of Ownership, such as transportation, maintenance, parts assembly, etc.
  • Update the costing performance between tender phase and project phase, factually analyse any discrepancy and provide factual data to the project manager.
  • Evaluate the cost impact of each modification linked to scope change and/or process change on a current design already provided.
  • Focus on cost optimisation, aiming to reduce components price through workshop with supplier sand/or engineering department (RDTC) in an ROI approach
  • Build catalog of existing solutions to improve efficiency of the department in case of urgent tender phase. Compare different solutions to highlight the most suitable one to the project.


Transverses Activities


•        Create/Update database of cost breakdown improvement for all technologies used by the CDS interiors

•        Contribute to the cost mindset development within the CDS Team via appropriate trainings and coaching




  • You have a Professional Engineering related degree (MSc) (OIQ Member)
  • 2 to 5 years pertinent experience
  • Excellent Excel skills (Pivot table, Macro, VBA)
  • You are familiar with CATIA V5
  • You have knowledge of the industrial processes (Aluminum extrusion aluminium, SMW, composite and thermoplastic processes, lighting)
  • Project and risk management knowledge
  • Costing knowledge (quotation, cost breakdown, RDTC using value analysis)
  • You are fluent in French/English.
  • You have analytical skills, organized, rigorous and pro-active
  • Ability to facilitate multi function teams
  • You are persuasive and capable to challenge the others
