The composite engineer will play a key role in Alstom's Materials and Special Engineering Process team. He will bring expertise to Alstom's Train Design Center that is accountable for projects in the Americas region, and Alstom's supply chain, specific to fiber reinforced composites, thermoplastic materials and adhesive bonding. In this role, the Candidate will:

  • identify relevant applications for non-metallic materials and bonding
  • review and guide the selection of materials, layups, manufacturing process and suppliers
  • participate in supplier quality reviews and internal project gate reviews, identifying risks of non-compliance with technical requirements
  • review and approved test programs to meet Alstom and customer requirements
  • review and approved test reports
  • troubleshoot, working hands-on with suppliers, as required, and define corrective measures for non-compliant products

 

Desired profile

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or other relevant domain
  • Member of the OIQ (L‘Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec)
  • Good understanding of non-metallic materials, covering design, processes (hand lay-up, infusion, RTM, SMC, and thermoforming) and testing
  • Good understanding of adhesive, covering applications, limitations, processing and validation
  • Practical experience in manufacturing non-metallic parts, adhesively bonded parts and product development (at least 2 years)
  • Understanding of railway specific standards suchs as NFPA 130 is an asset
  • Fluent in French/English
  • Familiar with CATIA V5 is an asset
  • Familiar with FEA of composites and Altair Hypermesh software and/or process modeling or resin flow software is an asset
  • Available to travel occasionally outside of Montreal area (to supplier sites and customer meetings)
