Your mission:

  • You will be responsible to lead and manage carbody (structural) activities within NAM Services Engineering group.
  • Being responsible for wrecked vehicles technical assessments, structural design for vehicle repairs or overhaul, structural welding and FEA analysis and calculations.  
  • You will participate on bids and projects, being responsible for providing technical reports, costing, and CAD deliverables in compliance with Quality, Cost and Delivery commitments.

 

Carbody is the result of the assembly of all the primary structural parts of the rail car (side walls, frame, roof, cab end and gangway end).

 

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Perform inspections of rail cars involved in an accident, to identify damages and structural condition
  • Create inspection technical reports and provide structural evaluations and repair assessment.
  • Able to review and prepare structural calculation analysis and reports for static and fatigue.
  • Develop (or lead) repair design (weld repairs, new parts…), applying Mechanical Domain instructions, processes, and tools, and Railway standards and regulations.
  • Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings in CATIA v5, for structural parts, in compliance with Quality-Cost-Delivery commitments, expertise rules and processes
  • Structural validation and support to Production teams and customers: structural welds, water tightness, and assembly of parts.
  • For Overhaul/modernization projects, design and integrate vehicle structural parts, as part of the overhaul requirements from the customer and with respect to all interfaces.
  • Experience in designing and approving welded assemblies, cast and fabricated structural components and recommending modifications of components to ensure conformance with project requirements.
  • Corrosion mitigation and repair procedures.
  • Participate in formal design review meetings and technical working sessions; internal and external with customers.
  • Schedule of activities and deliverables assigned, in compliance with project master schedule;
  • Perform quotation of structural activities on bids and projects, upon request.
  • Reporting activities progress and alerting relevant N+1 in case of issue potentially impacting achievement.

 

Desired profile:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering
  • OIQ member
  • 5+ years of experience in Mechanical Structural Design (FEA specialization)
  • Required knowledge of rail car vehicles (Light rail vehicles, commuters, locomotives)
  • Welding experience and knowledge of EN/AWS welding practices and procedures is required.
  • Required experience working with in Catia v5 (<5000 hours).
  • Structural analysis / finite element analysis software (HyperWorks Suites of Software with OptiStruct solver, visualization), at least 3 years
  • Design of welded structure subject to dynamic loading
  • Relevant experience in calculations of mechanic-welded structures and assemblies fatigue (welded, bolted, and riveted connections)
  • Working experience with required codes and railway standards (APTA, FRA, AAR)
  • Knowledge and experience working with Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel. Materials analysis, surface treatments, properties and selection.
  • Knowledge of general manufacturing processes including machining, welding, and sheet metal work.
  • Certified Welding Engineer / Professional Engineer is desirable but not required.
  • Preferred experience on overhaul or repair projects.
  • Good Communications and interpersonal skills including team work; Time management and reporting skill; Sense of urgency / priority.
  • English mandatory, French an asset

 

Occasional trip from Saint-Bruno to La Pocatière.
