Carry out the assessment on a project/product developpement to determine whether the product/project meets the specified safety requirements and to form a judgement on the fact that the product/project is fit for its intended purpose.



  • Issue an assessment plan at the begining of the project/product development or before the begining of some phases
  • Update the assessment plan according to the project/product development evolution


Perform the assessment activities

  • Perform the assessment activitiies according to the assessment plan
  • Issue and maintain a Finding Log with all the concerns identified in the course of the assessment
  • When several assesssor intervene on the project/product development, and when acting as lead assessor, coordinate the activities of assessment
  • Present the assessment results to the Project/Product development team, and if necessary to the Program management or to external entity as customer/railway safety authority


Issue an assessment report

  • Issue an assessment report at key milestones of the project/product development. The assessment report shall formally state about: 1. Suitability of the process used for the safety risk management, 2. Achievement of the specified safety objectives/requirements, including adequacy of the Project/Product to its intended purpose.
  • Issue opinion notices between key milestones issues, if necessary


Support assessment activities performed by other actors

  • Participate in the tender phase to the definition of the type and level of assessment to be implemented
  • Issue a specification for a call for tender to hire an external ISA (Independant Safety Assessor)
  • Review external ISA proposals/safety assessment plan
  • Support/coach Project Quality Safety Manager (PrQSM) performing assessment


Educational requirements
  • Degree in Engineering and 7-10 years experience of product and safety development

Technical Knowledge / Experience

  • Mandatory minimum technical knowledge in line with the assessed projects/products. Experience in Railway domain of more than 3 years. Knowledge of the applicable railway safety standards. External recognition /accreditation is an added value.
Behavioral and Technical Skills / Competencies
  • Rigorous and structured,
  • Ability to challenge and adapt to a changing fast pace environment
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent communication skills
