Objective

The V&V Engineer is responsible for providing fully Validated, Verified, and Integrated projects according to Alstom's core technical processes. The V&V Engineer participates in System Design meetings to develop requirements that can be practically validated and defines the methods of validation. She / he prepares test plans, procedures, and reports to validate specified requirements. She / he performs tests in-factory in accordance with these test plans and procedures. She / he plans, estimates, directs, and leads Project V&V work. She / he writes test automation scripts.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Performs analysis of system and subsystem requirements to define validation methods, and test cases;
  • Plans the V&V Project work, including the preparation of V&V test plans, including Hardware Qualification plans;
  • Identifies test objectives and test cases and prepares overall tests (test sheets, test scenarios, and test result tables) in accordance with the V&V test plans;
  • Develops hardware qualification test plans and procedures for systemsand sub-system. Oversees the conduct of qualification testing for system and sub-system;
  • Performs test sessions: runs test procedures in factory and produces the associated Change Requests when required;
  • Prepares test reports which record the pass / fail status of planned tests and identifies problems detected during the tests;
  • Directs, supervises, and reviews the work of more junior staff performing V&V work;
  • Supervises testers’ in-factory assignments/tasks, ensuring application of standards, practices/procedures, quality assurance, and adherence to budgets;
  • Trains and develops the skills of more junior staff;
  • Performs investigations on defects detected on the test bench through analysis of data files / design documentation and interaction with development departments;
  • Prepares problem reports in the defect tracking system describing test failures and defects;
  • Assists in estimating the workload, the development of V&V schedules and budgets, and progress reporting;
  • Keeps current with company test processes and methods;
  • Performs traceability analysis;
  • Assists in development of V&V processes and tools;
  • Assists in project schedule and budget activities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Travel as needed

 

Educational Requirements

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or equivalent 

 

Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience working in Railway Industry related areas such as V&V - test methods and procedures, Hardware Qualification process, Design or Application.
  • Rail signalling techniques experience, with specific in Wayside Interlocking.
  • Good technical knowledge of the discipline and good understanding of hardware qualification standards.
  • Knowledge in PLC programming, software coding, test automation/scripting, and work with DOORS / ClearQuest is a plus.
  • Strong leadership skills to interact with all internal stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the roles of other departments as relating to Verification and Validation/Test.

 

Working Conditions

  • Work in a laboratory or factory environment is required
  • Travel up to 10% as needed to support field activities.
